Red Flamboyant Festival 2025: Affirming the identity and position of Hai Phong

The 2024 Red Flamboyant Festival attracts thousands of people and tourists to attend.

In 2025, the Red Flamboyant Festival will have special significance as the city celebrates the 70th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13, 1955 - May 13, 2025), marking the resilient journey and strong rise of the heroic port city.

The Red Flamboyant Festival is not only an annual cultural event, but also a tribute to the past, a celebration of the present and an affirmation of the desire to reach further. This is also an opportunity for Hai Phong to promote the image of a youthful, dynamic city, ready to integrate with the world, and at the same time, arouse pride in the hearts of every citizen of the port city.

This year, the festival enters its 12th season, continuing to affirm its unique cultural brand, attracting domestic and foreign tourists. The highlight of the festival is the special art program with the theme "Hai Phong: 70 years of faith and aspiration to rise up".

Director of Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Thi Hoang Mai said that this year's festival was carefully invested in, the stage was elaborately staged, combining music, light and performing arts, bringing quiet moments, where the past and present harmonize in each melody, each colorful dance.

According to Ms. Mai, to prepare for these important events, the Department has invited prestigious, capable and qualified authors and directors to develop scripts for the festival, thereby honoring the heroic history and affirming the city's position and development potential.

The 70th Anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day and the opening art program of the 2025 Red Flamboyant Festival will carry a heroic message about historical memories and national pride in the tradition of bravery and determination to win; demonstrating the spirit, will, and aspiration for continuous innovation and development of Hai Phong city after 70 years of liberation, affirming its position as one of the three largest cities in the country, its role as an important gateway, a driving force for development of the Northern region and the whole country, taking the lead in building a socialist model associated with socialist people.

The festival is expected to take place on the evening of May 13, 2025 at the Square in front of the Political - Administrative Center (New Urban Area North of Cam River, Hai Phong). Fireworks will be set off at six locations in the city. At the fireworks display locations, sound, lighting and large LED screens will be arranged to broadcast the festival live to serve the people.

At the workshop on Promoting the cultural identity and people of Hai Phong in the cause of building and developing the city and the country, there were many contributions with the aim of affirming and elevating the Red Flamboyant Festival, expanding to attract domestic and international tourists.

According to Dr. Pham Huu Thu, one of the ideas worth considering is to organize a contest to vote for the most beautiful royal poinciana trees throughout the city. This will not only contribute to promoting the image of Hai Phong with its brilliant royal poinciana colors but also raise awareness of preserving this typical tree species.

Mr. Thu emphasized: “Why not build prominent “royal poinciana flower roads” to become tourist attractions, where visitors can check-in and enjoy the space filled with the characteristic red color…”.

Instead of just organizing art performances, the festival can expand the experience activities for visitors. For example, workshops on painting royal poinciana flowers, art photo exhibitions, or interactive activities such as making souvenirs from royal poinciana flowers, creating unique tourism products that visitors can bring home as souvenirs.

These initiatives will help the royal poinciana flower not only remain a symbol but also truly exist in life, bringing sustainable economic and cultural value. In addition, Hai Phong can also learn from international festivals to enrich the program.

Organizing street parades with colorful floats and creating artistic light shows inspired by the red color of royal poinciana flowers will help make the festival more attractive in the eyes of international tourists.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong has just had a working session with Vietnam Railways Corporation and related units to exchange opinions on supporting and developing the "Hoa Phuong Do" train product and organizing a "Delicious Food Festival" at Hai Phong station.

Accordingly, in order to develop railway tourism products and increase the value of the experience for tourists, Vietnam Railways Corporation, the unit in charge of developing the "Hoa Phuong Do" train product, plans to put into operation 20 new carriages on the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway route.

The carriages are modernly designed, have luxurious interiors and are named the “Red Flamboyant” train.

“The Red Flamboyant Flower Festival has been chosen as an event that bears the city’s unique mark, and the people agree and are proud of it. However, through each season of the Red Flamboyant Flower Festival, the Organizing Committee always learns from experience and seeks to expand the scale and create innovations to elevate the festival, affirm the value and meaning of the red flamboyant flower to become a typical cultural symbol of Hai Phong, while creating a strong attraction for the city’s people and domestic and foreign tourists,” emphasized the Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

With the meaning and importance of the festival, along with careful preparation of facilities and concentration of resources for the organization, Hai Phong city is determined to successfully organize the Red Flamboyant Flower Festival - Hai Phong 2025, affirming a Hai Phong city with a creative government and unity in will and action of the entire Party, army and people of the city, will continue to create a new look, a new image of a Hai Phong - a city with a long history and culture, beautiful natural landscape, rising strongly, Hai Phong people are generous, friendly, civilized, polite in the eyes of domestic and international friends.
