(QBĐT) - On the morning of April 1, Comrade Tran Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper on the occasion of his visit and work in Quang Binh. Attending the reception were representatives of leaders of a number of relevant departments, branches and units.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phong expressed his pleasure to welcome the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Vietnam and the delegation to visit and work in Quang Binh.
He emphasized that over the years, the cooperative relationship between Quang Binh province and the United States has been increasingly strengthened and expanded through specific activities, such as: Searching for missing American soldiers in the war, cooperation in cultural and educational exchanges at schools in the province.
In addition, Quang Binh province has received much attention and support from the US Government, Embassy, agencies and organizations through funding and support for humanitarian programs and projects, and non-refundable aid in the fields of education, health, biodiversity conservation, etc.
Quang Binh tourism with famous landscapes and landscapes, especially the World Heritage Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park with beautiful, unique caves, including Son Doong Cave, the largest cave in the world, which is increasingly loved by American tourists to explore.
Major US media outlets have had many programs recorded, broadcast live, as well as voted and ranked Quang Binh's tourist attractions very highly, helping the province promote its image globally.
The US Government, through the Office of Disarmament and Reclamation (US Department of State), has funded foreign non-governmental organizations to carry out projects to overcome the consequences of bombs, mines, and explosives left over from the war in Quang Binh with a budget of tens of millions of USD.
In particular, at the end of 2024, the Ambassador issued a letter regarding the US Government's decision to provide additional aid worth 22.5 million USD to organizations such as MAG, NPA, PTVN to maintain and expand projects on overcoming the consequences of post-war bombs, mines and explosives in Quang Binh province in the period of 2024-2028.
On behalf of the provincial leaders, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee respectfully thanked the Ambassador for his attention to building a good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the United States in general and promoting the increasingly good cooperative relationship between Quang Binh province and US Government agencies in particular. Especially the resumption of funding for projects to overcome the consequences of bombs, mines and explosives left over from the war, after a period of suspension.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee hopes that in the coming time, the Ambassador and his colleagues will continue to pay attention to and support Quang Binh province in implementing programs and projects on overcoming the consequences of bombs, mines and explosives left over from the war. At the same time, he requested the Ambassador to support the introduction of US investors to research, learn and invest in Quang Binh and continue to support the promotion of the image of Quang Binh to US tourists...
At the reception, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper thanked the leaders of Quang Binh province for their warm welcome to the delegation as well as the support of the local government in the search for missing American soldiers in the area.
The Ambassador emphasized that this working trip to Quang Binh is of great significance, marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. At the same time, he highly appreciated Quang Binh's contribution to reconciliation, enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the United States and Vietnam; the close and effective cooperation between the Quang Binh provincial government and non-governmental organizations in the activities of projects to clear unexploded ordnance and overcome the consequences of war.
The Ambassador also affirmed the commitment of the US Government to continue supporting Vietnam in general and Quang Binh in particular to resolve the consequences of war through specific activities to heal the wounds of war, based on the principle of being honest with the past, together moving towards a prosperous future.
