Journey to realize passion for education

Born in 1990, Minh Tam graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, while Dang Thoai graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking. Thoai has a strange passion for education, aspiring to become a teacher even when she was studying at a banking school.

She saved money from part-time jobs, borrowed money from relatives to buy two tables, five chairs, a whiteboard, etc. to open a small classroom when she was a third-year student. But the reality was not as she imagined, teaching required more than knowledge and passion. The class closed after only a few days.

The first failure on the journey to conquer the teaching podium made Thoai sad but not discouraged. Thoai temporarily put his dream aside, focused on studying and carefully planned the day to return to the "dream journey".

In the years that followed, Thoại attended a series of courses on skills needed for teaching. After graduating from finance and banking and starting a career, she still arranged time to study for a bachelor's degree in English.

Meanwhile, Minh Tam came to the path of education by chance. After graduating and working at the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, with good foreign language skills, he tutored English for the children of his colleagues and neighbors, both as a way to review knowledge and earn income. Perhaps because of his fun and easy-to-understand teaching style, the number of students in Minh Tam's class gradually increased.

At the end of 2016, Minh Tam and Dang Thoai got married. Their dream of pursuing an educational journey became more realistic than ever.

During the day, Minh Tam pursues her main job, Dang Thoai takes care of the small class she initiated. In the evening, Thoai goes to extra classes and Tam takes over the class.

Sometimes they were exhausted, but they encouraged each other, reminding each other of the meaning and passion for education. The effect of the class was recognized, the number of students increased significantly. Minh Tam decided to quit his job and, together with his wife, manage the career of sowing knowledge.

We always share with teachers that they should not just be teachers of words but also be guides and supporters in their journey to become better versions of themselves every day.

Using technology to turn "danger into opportunity" during the pandemic

The first center, which the couple named "Tam Thoai Edu", maintained the number of students in the hundreds. When it became more stable, the center was moved from a small alley to a large office building to ensure the quality of teaching.

But shortly after the center opened at its new location, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, disrupting all teaching. Sleepless nights followed, with many worries and sorrows.

The center has also become a "common home" for dozens of teachers, with the aim of not only helping students improve their knowledge of general subjects but also improving their soft skills.

That is why teachers and students of the center still arrange to participate in some community activities in the locality, with the Red Cross. For students in difficult circumstances, the center provides scholarships to share the financial burden with their families.

The couple sat down calmly and assessed that this challenge was not only for their center. They both considered it a test of their passion, determined to revive it at all costs.

With travel and large gatherings restricted, both have digitized their teaching content and quickly switched to online teaching. Although recruiting students for online classes is more difficult than the traditional way, both have persevered.

The message they conveyed to parents was that "through online teaching, parents can easily monitor their children's learning process as well as the teaching quality of the center". This approach helped the couple successfully "revive" the center.

The couple has now opened two new facilities in District 3 (HCMC) and changed the name to TTE - The Learning Center, with nearly 400 students per course.
