On March 3, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that on February 18, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a decision approving the overall project to reorganize the administrative apparatus, specialized agencies, and public service units under the People's Committee.

According to this decision, the Department of Health takes over the functions and tasks of state management of social protection, child care and protection, and social evil prevention from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

The Department of Health will establish the Department of Child Protection, Care and Social Protection, on the basis of merging the Department of Social Protection and the Department of Child Protection, Care and Gender Equality of the former Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has 9 functional departments, including the Department Office, Department of Personnel Organization, Department of Financial Planning, Department of Medical Affairs, Department of Pharmaceutical Affairs, Department of Health Service Management, Department of Information Technology, Department of Child Protection, Care and Social Protection and Department Inspectorate.

In addition, the Department of Health received the Department of Social Evils Prevention and Control and 12 public service units in the field of social protection.

Thus, the Department of Health currently has two branches, including the Department of Population and the Department of Social Evils Prevention and Control.

The total number of personnel received from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to the Department of Health is 1,531 civil servants, public employees and workers.

In addition, the Department of Health received a deputy director, Mr. Nguyen Tang Minh, and assigned him to be in charge of social protection, child care and protection, and social evil prevention.

The restructuring of the apparatus will help ensure close links between social protection work and health care for the people. Vulnerable groups such as children, the disabled, the elderly, etc. will enjoy more comprehensive support policies.

The Department of Health will promptly deploy solutions to soon stabilize the organization and put it into operation, ensuring that it does not affect the progress of implementing tasks, while simultaneously streamlining the organization and restructuring the team of cadres and civil servants with sufficient qualities and capacity to meet the tasks.

According to the plan, in the coming time, the Department of Health will assign 12 hospitals to sign comprehensive support contracts for health care for vulnerable people being cared for at 12 social protection centers.
