Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requested American International School Vietnam (AISVN) to handle and end the situation of teachers quitting their jobs en masse.
The information was stated in the Department's directive document on the afternoon of March 20, after sending an inspection team to work with the American International School Vietnam.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department, requested the chairman of the school board and the principal to quickly implement solutions to maintain and organize teaching and other educational activities according to the program, ensuring the rights of students. Every day, the school must report its operations to the Department before 3:00 p.m.
If a student wants to transfer schools, Mr. Hieu requires AISVN to handle the situation according to the parents' needs.
On the other hand, to ensure the right to study and not to interrupt students' studies, the Department recommends that education departments and public, private, and foreign-invested schools create conditions for AISVN students to transfer if needed.
Previously, on March 18, nearly 1,400 students at the American International School Vietnam had to stay home from school when most teachers did not show up for school due to unpaid wages and insurance. The school reopened the next day, but said "there will still be unavoidable disruptions."
Many parents and students said that most of the classes had no teachers. Students were divided into groups to study by themselves, play in the cafeteria, library, and soccer field.
Responding to VnExpress on the night of March 18, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em, Chairwoman of the AISVN Council, said the school is facing serious financial difficulties and currently owes 1.5-2 months of salary and insurance to teachers and staff.

AISVN was established in 2006 and teaches the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Tuition fees are VND280-350 million per year for preschool, VND450-500 million for primary school and VND600-725 million for secondary school. The school has more than 400 Vietnamese and foreign teachers and staff.
In October 2023, AISVN attracted attention when many parents gathered to demand debt. These parents said they lent the school tens of billions of dong without interest, without collateral, through loan contracts. In return, their children could study for free, and the school committed to paying within 30 days after the students graduated or transferred schools. However, they did not receive the money back.
