The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just sent an official dispatch to the head of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City and districts; principals of primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, and multi-level general schools in Ho Chi Minh City, regarding the transfer and admission of students of the American International Primary, Secondary, and High School (AISVN International School) for the 2024-2025 school year.

Require high schools to accept students from AISVN International School

The Department requests the Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City and districts, principals of general schools to base on the instructions in Document No. 4011 of the Department on transferring schools and receiving students of AISVN International School to continue receiving students of this school to ensure that students have convenience in receiving, enrolling and not having their learning process interrupted in the 2024-2025 school year.

In particular, the director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requested the chairman of the school board and principal of AISVN International School to strictly comply with the department's decision No. 2042 dated June 28 regarding the suspension of the school's operations.

Now the school leaders must assign personnel and organize the implementation of school transfer procedures; create the most favorable conditions for parents when they come to contact and provide complete documents according to regulations when parents complete school transfer procedures.

"The school principal assigns staff to check data daily and promptly notify parents to guide them in properly implementing these instructions," the document stated.

The department's leaders also directed that upon receiving this document, the units will organize implementation and notify parents of students.

During the implementation process, if there are any difficulties in receiving students, leaders of units should contact the departments of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training for guidance.

Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City decided to suspend the educational activities of AISVN International School for 12 months from July 1.

AISVN International School has repeatedly announced that it will resume operations in August 2024.

Meanwhile, since the beginning of August 2024, AISVN International School has repeatedly notified via email about the preparation for the new school year 2024 - 2025.

The school's announcement said: "Currently, the school is actively carrying out the necessary work to open the 2024-2025 school year in August 2024.

Most recently on July 26, 29, and 31, department representatives met to report to the school board on preparations for the new school year.

Work is underway to ensure readiness for the new school year: submitting documents to the authorities; recruiting teachers and staff according to requests from departments; cleaning, repairing, and maintaining facilities.

“We have now completed class assignments based on the registration link for student start times sent on August 3rd and are in the process of arranging the necessary teachers, staff and equipment to prepare for the 2024-2025 school year.”

In a notice sent to parents on August 9, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em - chairwoman of the AISVN International School Board - said: "We are currently working with relevant authorities on reopening the school.

Next week, the school will process payroll for current staff and finalize contracts with new staff.

The school will start the new academic year in August and will notify you three days before the start date."

However, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - said that Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em's appointment of Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu to join the school board of AISVN International School is not official.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has made it clear that if a school wants to appoint a school board chairman, it must submit its application to the department for review and recognition.

Ms. Ut Em's announcement of the assignment of the position of school board chairman without the recognition of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is not allowed.

"I affirm that up to this point, AISVN International School does not have the conditions to resume operations. If the school wants to resume operations, it must overcome all the reasons that led to the school's suspension, especially the issue of financial resources.

Therefore, parents need to be extremely vigilant and consider transferring their children to new schools so that they have time to get used to the new learning environment," said Mr. Hieu.

Information about Dr. Thomas Annis - AISVN's principal - on the school's website has now been removed.
