The Portuguese tactician is currently unemployed after being sacked by AS Roma earlier this year.
At the age of 61, coach Jose Mourinho has an illustrious record during his time leading Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Tottenham and Roma.
He was also the head coach of MU from 2016-2018 when he replaced coach Van Gaal. During that time, the "special one" brought the Red Devils to the Europa League podium.
The Daily Mail revealed that coach Mourinho really wants to return to Old Trafford because he feels there is "unfinished business" there.
The source added that coach Mourinho would be happy to work with billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos, eager to bring MU to success.
The British billionaire has just taken over the football operations at the Manchester club. Sir Jim and his staff are conducting a comprehensive review, including the position of coach Erik ten Hag.
However, according to insiders, the chance for coach Mourinho to receive trust from the new MU leadership team is very low, with a 1/33 ratio to replace coach Ten Hag.
The Dutch coach has been under great pressure recently as MU has struggled in the race for the top 4 of the Premier League, after being eliminated from the Champions League and Carabao Cup.
