With a coastline of 3,260km stretching from North to South, Vietnam is a region blessed by Mother Nature with abundant aquatic resources. At the same time, thanks to the advantage of an extremely large maritime exclusive economic zone, it cannot be denied that Vietnam has extremely favorable conditions for the development of the aquaculture industry.
In the first 8 months of 2024, our country's seafood exports reached nearly 6.3 billion USD, up 7.6% over the same period. Of which, shrimp exports reached more than 2.4 billion USD and pangasius reached 1.2 billion USD. The United States and the EU are the two main seafood export markets of Vietnam.
An important contribution to the export results of the industries in recent times is the implementation of many solutions to maximize the opportunities from the FTAs that Vietnam has signed, including the Vietnam - European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement. To date, Vietnam has signed and basically concluded negotiations on 17 FTAs with over 60 countries and territories; is negotiating and preparing to start negotiations on 3 agreements and 1 economic framework. Therefore, the opportunity to expand exports is present.
However, many Vietnamese seafood exporting enterprises have not yet fully exploited the advantages and potential of these agreements. Therefore, in order to find a solution to this problem, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as the focal agency for negotiating and implementing FTAs, has been strengthening connections with ministries, localities, associations and related parties to create a linked ecosystem to help the seafood industry take advantage of FTAs effectively.
Based on the above reality, Cong Thuong Newspaper organized a Discussion in direct and online form with the theme "Building an ecosystem to take advantage of FTAs - Opportunities for the seafood industry" to find the best solution to help the seafood industry better take advantage of incentives from FTAs as well as realize solutions for the Vietnamese seafood industry to build a better ecosystem and boost exports.
