Up to this point, aquaculture farmers in the province have basically completed the renovation of ponds, urgently treated the water environment in the ponds and prepared the necessary conditions to be ready to breed aquatic products.
Mr. Tran Xuan Thu, Ngai Chau village, Dong Minh commune (Tien Hai) checks machinery for aquaculture.
Experience over many years of saltwater and brackish water aquaculture of coastal people in Dong Minh commune (Tien Hai) shows that to have a successful crop, it is necessary to prepare well all stages such as pond renovation, selecting quality breeds and preventing and controlling diseases. In particular, pond renovation is an important step. If the pond is well prepared, it will create a favorable environment for aquatic breeds to develop, limiting the remaining pathogens, especially in ponds with many crops in a year.
Mr. Truong Xuan Hoi, Director of Hai Chau Aquaculture Production and Business Cooperative, Dong Minh Commune, said: The lagoon area of Dong Minh Commune is over 130 hectares, of which shrimp farming is over 100 hectares, crab farming of all kinds is 13 hectares, and fish farming of all kinds is 15 hectares. In recent times, local authorities have focused on propagating the crop calendar, providing technical training, monitoring and warning the environment of farming areas, strengthening inspection and management of aquatic materials, ensuring that poor quality seeds and fake drugs and chemicals are not circulated in the area, affecting the production process and causing economic losses to the people. Up to now, the aquaculture areas have basically completed the renovation stage, Dong Minh Commune will focus on breeding aquatic products when the weather is favorable according to the set plan. Hai Chau Aquaculture Production and Business Cooperative plans to import 350,000 black tiger shrimp and whiteleg shrimp to supply farmers in this breeding season.
Having been involved in aquaculture for many years, Mr. Tran Xuan Thu, Ngai Chau village, Dong Minh commune, understands that only good quality shrimp seeds can make farming easier. Mr. Thu shared: By March 30, my family had completed the renovation of the entire 2,150m2 aquaculture area and was taking water into the pond to treat the environment. The expected time for shrimp seed release will be from April 16 to 18. I ordered shrimp seed for this spring-summer crop from a reputable facility, and plan to release 20,000 high-quality black tiger shrimp seeds.
Aquaculture households carry out the step of taking water into the pond to disinfect and prepare for aquaculture breeding.
With many years of experience in aquaculture, especially shrimp farming, which has brought high value to the people of Thai Thuy district, at this time, people in coastal communes focus on sowing according to the set time frame.
Mr. Ha Minh Tuan, a shrimp farmer in Thuy Truong commune, said: This year, shrimp seed release was a few days later than in previous years due to the rainy and humid weather in the previous days, and unfavorable environmental conditions. On April 15, my family started seeding, planning to release nearly 100,000 white-leg shrimp on an area of 6 sao of pond. Currently, many other shrimp farmers in the commune are also focusing on seeding to start the new farming season.
Mr. Hoang Minh Giang, Head of the provincial Department of Fisheries, said: In order for the first shrimp crop of the year to be successful, the Department has advised the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct functional departments and offices to closely coordinate with localities and farmers to focus on improving ponds and ponds, and strengthen management measures for aquaculture areas. At the same time, propagate and guide measures to prevent and control diseases in shrimp, clams, and fish on mass media for farming households to implement in order to minimize damage and protect the fruits of their labor. Strengthen inspection of establishments trading in feed, medicine, and chemicals, requiring them to ensure business conditions according to legal regulations, and not to sell chemicals and antibiotics banned in aquaculture. Propagate on the local radio system and through conferences on measures to prevent and control aquatic diseases. Raising awareness among aquaculture households about the harmful effects of diseases in aquaculture, committing to implementing the "3 no's": not hiding diseases, not discharging disease-infected pond and lagoon water into the environment, and not dumping diseased or dead aquatic animals into the surrounding environment.
As of March, the renovated area reached 13,530 hectares, equal to 86.4% of the total aquaculture area, of which: brackish water outside the dike has basically completed the renovation; for the concentrated conversion area, households are renovating, the total area is 3,210 hectares, reaching 90.3%; freshwater 7,151 hectares, reaching 80%. The area of saltwater renovated immediately after harvest reached 100%. Regarding seed production, 10.6 million fish were produced, including: 8.5 million carp; 2 million tilapia...
In addition, to regenerate aquatic resources, the provincial Department of Fisheries has coordinated with sectors and localities to release 10,000 traditional aquatic breeds into the Tra Ly River, which has received enthusiastic response from the people, organizations and individuals. In addition to the active participation of the agricultural sector, households have also followed the instructions of specialized agencies, actively invested and applied science and technology to make the spring-summer aquaculture successful.
