Salah reaches rare milestone as Liverpool moves to second in Premier League

Mo Salah is the fifth player to have a hand in a goal in the first six rounds of the Premier League, with his penalty kick opening the scoring in Liverpool's 3-1 win over West Ham.

In the 15th minute, Salah was tripped by defender Nayef Aguerd in the penalty area, giving Liverpool a penalty. The Egyptian star took responsibility for the penalty and defeated goalkeeper Alphonse Areola with a powerful shot to the right wing.

Thanks to that, Salah became the fifth player to contribute to a goal in all six first rounds of the Premier League, after David Beckham for Man Utd in the 2000-2001 season, Thierry Henry for Arsenal in the 2004-2005 season, Sergio Aguero for Man City in the 2019-2020 season and Erling Haaland for Man City in the 2022-2023 season.

Before the West Ham match, Salah contributed two assists in the 3-1 win over Wolves, one goal in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa, one assist in the 2-1 win over Newcastle, one goal in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth and one assist in the opening match, a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

In the 38th minute, Salah missed the chance to score twice when his left foot curled the ball wide of the post from Luis Diaz's well-placed pass. Immediately, the home team had to pay the price. In the 42nd minute, Vladimir Coufal crossed from the right wing for Jarrod Bowen to fly and head the ball across the corner, sending the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Alisson.

In the second half, Liverpool dominated and continuously threatened the visitors' goal. In the 53rd minute, Salah made a pass but Darwin Nunez missed the target when he was unmarked from less than 11 meters away.

But the Uruguayan striker did not have to regret for too long. Less than ten minutes later, 2022 World Cup champion Alexis Mac Allister flicked the ball into the penalty area for Nunez to run down and shoot a one-touch shot into the far corner, helping Liverpool regain the lead.

West Ham's dream of winning points was shattered in the 85th minute, when Van Dijk headed the ball into the penalty area to Diogo Jota, who connected with goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

Liverpool maintained their unbeaten streak to rise to second place in the Premier League with 16 points, two points behind defending champions Man City, while West Ham ranked seventh with ten points.

On September 27, coach Jurgen Klopp and his team will host Leicester in the third round of the League Cup, then travel to Tottenham's home field to play in the seventh round of the Premier League on September 30.
