Late in the afternoon every day, after finishing their classes, the art-loving students of Nguyen Du Primary School, Lao Cai City quickly gather in the school’s Art Room. Here, they participate in club activities and freely create shapes with vibrant colors.

The Fine Arts Club of Nguyen Du Primary School has more than 40 students in all grades. Classes at the club not only help students develop and improve their Fine Arts skills but also create a fun and comfortable space for them to express their creativity. To inspire and create creativity in each student, the school has organized drawing competitions at school and created opportunities for students to participate in drawing competitions in and outside the province.

At Thong Nhat Secondary School, Lao Cai City, despite the difficulties in teaching and learning Fine Arts, the school has made many efforts to nurture students' passion. Currently, the school has 2 art clubs with 2 subjects: Fine Arts and Music, attracting more than 70 students. Because there is no multi-purpose hall or functional room, the club's activities are sometimes in the classroom, sometimes in the schoolyard. However, the students are still enthusiastic to participate according to the weekly and monthly schedules. Depending on each student's ability, the teacher will let students participate in competitions to improve their knowledge, learn and communicate more confidently.

Pham Anh Duong, a student of class 7A1, Thong Nhat Secondary School, shared: When I joined the art club, my teacher taught me how to sketch, color, and mix colors, so I improved quickly and my drawings became more beautiful. My future goal is to choose architecture as a major, so I will try to study and practice my drawing skills right now.

Art teacher Nguyen Thi Binh has accompanied and nurtured the students’ passion for art through specific actions. Once a semester, Ms. Binh buys drawing paper and painting supplies for students who love art, helping them to freely draw with their natural, airy strokes.

The contest "We draw a picture of our homeland" launched by the Lao Cai Provincial Literature and Arts Association is one of the useful playgrounds for students who love painting. In 2024, the contest attracted the participation of 91 schools across the province with more than 800 paintings, thereby affirming the appeal of painting to children. Of which, Nguyen Du Primary School and Thong Nhat Secondary School, Lao Cai City had the largest number of works participating in the contest. Painter Nguyen Xuan Chien, a member of the contest's Jury, said: The children vividly expressed different themes, showing their talent for painting and good aesthetic perception. I am impressed with the works that convey the children's wishes and thoughts in the paintings, not works that show off techniques or how to arrange pieces, because the nature of children's paintings is the innocence and sincerity of their age.

As society develops, aesthetic education becomes more and more necessary and important in the comprehensive education of students. The goal is to inspire passion and nurture and develop the inherent artistic talent of each student right from school.
