Rosé's hit "APT." surpassed 800 million views on YouTube in less than 3 months, breaking the record previously set by "Gangnam Style."
According to records, by the morning of January 8, the music video APT. belong to Rose and Bruno Mars have reached over 804 million views on YouTube.
This is the first music video by the BlackPink main vocalist to do this. The hit also broke the record due to Psy's Gangnam Style holds the artist's music video Kpop Fastest to surpass 800 million views on YouTube. APT. reached that milestone in 81 days, while Gangnam Style did it in 131 days in 2012.
APT. is on track to become the fastest K-pop MV to reach one billion views on YouTube. Currently, Gangnam Style currently holds this title for 158 days.
Previously, APT. also reached 800 million streams on Spotify and climbed to number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the first female K-pop artist to do so.
While many fans congratulated the 1997-born singer, others had mixed opinions about this achievement.
Some viewers argue that comparing a song in 2024 with a song from 2012 based solely on views is lame because the number of internet users today has increased many times compared to more than 12 years ago.
“ Gangnam Style played on radios all over the world. It was more impressive because at that time there was no TikTok, nor was there any superstar Kpop artist who was the most listened to on Spotify to let people know about Korean music products," one audience member emphasized.
Besides, some people claim that APT. global popularity thanks to Bruno Mars' influence, YouTube ads, and Blink's streaming sites. This person criticized the music product because Rosé could not be as famous as the hits Dynamite (BTS), Butter (BTS), Seven (Jungkook), Cupid (Fifty Fifty) and Gangnam style .
Not stopping there, many people think that APT. It can't be considered a Kpop song because except for the word "apateu", all the lyrics are in English.
Not responding to the controversy, Rosé expressed gratitude and reflected on the past year in a rather lengthy social media post on January 7.
“2024 has been the hardest and most rewarding year for me so far. It's been a crazy year. I've done everything I've ever wanted to do. That's a lot of music. Yeah, I've done a lot,” beauty share.
The thing Rosé is most proud of this year is releasing her first full-length solo album - Rosie . She sends her thanks to those who have supported her and her music.
