In an effort to resume talks to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, a group of senior Egyptian security and military officials met on October 25 with the head of the Mossad intelligence agency and a delegation from Israel's Shin Bet internal security agency.
During the meeting in Cairo, Egypt affirmed its opposition to the ongoing military operations in the northern Gaza Strip. Egypt also warned of the risks posed by Israel's obstruction of humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, on October 24, a Hamas delegation, led by chief negotiator and Hamas Gaza Deputy Leader Khalil Al-Hayya, arrived in Cairo to meet with Egyptian Intelligence Chief Hassan Mahmoud Rashad.
In a recent statement, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani confirmed that the US, Egypt and Qatar have resumed efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and a prisoner exchange agreement.
Regarding the Middle East conflict, the US administration on October 26 called on Iran not to retaliate against Israel to break the spiral of violence after Tel Aviv launched attacks on Tehran targets early the same morning.
A senior US administration official said President Joe Biden and his national security team have been working with Israel in recent weeks to urge Tel Aviv to carry out the attack to minimize civilian damage.
On the same day, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on Iran not to respond to Israel's series of airstrikes, and urged all parties to exercise restraint.
