The event was jointly organized by the Hanoi National University Publishing House and the Hanoi Hong Chau Cultural Heritage Association (Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association). Representatives of many central and Hanoi agencies, organizations, and scientific units, along with a large number of managers, historical researchers, and cultural heritage experts attended.
Governor Hoang Dieu (1829-1882), who had many contributions to the building of the Nguyen Dynasty, serving the nation and the people. During the second invasion of Hanoi Citadel by the French Colonialists (1882), due to the imbalance of forces, Hanoi Citadel fell, Governor Hoang Dieu committed suicide, leaving a tragic example in the history of the struggle to protect the fatherland in general and the struggle to protect Hanoi Citadel in particular.
The book launch event is a practical activity to celebrate the 195th anniversary of the birth and commemorate the 143rd anniversary of the death of Governor Hoang Dieu (March 8th of the lunar calendar).
The book “The life and career of Governor Hoang Dieu and the defense of Hanoi citadel” by authors Dr. Nguyen Quang Ha - Lawyer Ha Thi Thanh, published by Hanoi National University Publishing House.
The authors have worked hard to research sources of documents, research literature; statistics, quantification, closely combining surveys, collections, field research with the exploitation of archives in warehouses and libraries to create a rich system of documents presented in the book's content.

Speaking at the book launch ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Quang Hai, former Director of the Vietnam Institute of History, assessed that the book is an inherited achievement of previous authors, along with field trips, reliable research sources such as royal decrees, woodblocks, steles, etc.
Lawyer Ha Thi Thanh, co-author of the book, said that the example of sacrifice of Governor Hoang Dieu has become a typical patriotic image in many art forms such as literature, poetry, theater art, etc.
With the desire to clarify more about the background and career of famous Vietnamese people in history with the most objective perspective, the group of authors plans to continue researching and publishing books about famous people, to bring history closer to young people and to show gratitude to their ancestors.
Present at the book launch ceremony, People's Artist Xuan Bac, Director of the Department of Performing Arts, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, expressed his hope that the book will be a source of inspiration for artists to create and incorporate into their works of art, to enrich historical-themed art works, which have long been lacking.
Since 1945, there have been many works written about Governor Hoang Dieu, but they are still quite modest. The work “The life and career of Governor Hoang Dieu and the defense of Hanoi citadel” is the most extensive and elaborate work about Governor Hoang Dieu to date.
The book has collected, systematically updated, quite fully and richly historical sources, works, research projects, and archives to clarify and deepen the life and career of Governor Hoang Dieu. The book has contributed to deepening and clarifying the great contributions of Governor Hoang Dieu and at the same time, making proposals and research to promote the legacy of the famous Governor Hoang Dieu.
The presentations and opinions of scientists at the seminar, based on perspectives from the fields of History, Han Nom, Studies, Museology, Literature, and Cinema, also focused on the topic of promoting the value of relics and heritages related to Governor Hoang Dieu. Notable are the solutions and recommendations to increase the scale, documents and scientific nature in collecting and displaying the Heritage of Governor Hoang Dieu in a number of museums and localities, first of all in Hanoi and Quang Nam (his hometown); the restoration and construction of a temple to worship Governor Hoang Dieu in Hanoi; strengthening activities and types of image building, propaganda and education... to promote the heritage of national heroes in general and Governor Hoang Dieu in particular in the new development stage of the country.
