At the Hanoi Party Committee's Symposium, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan reported on the content of the Hanoi Capital Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee said that the Hanoi Capital planning has been unanimously approved by the Appraisal Council. The Party Committee of the City People's Committee has resolutely and urgently directed the reception, explanation, supplementation and completion according to the opinions of the Appraisal Council and the direction of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee.

The plan also sets out the vision and aspirations for development by 2050, the capital Hanoi will have a high standard of living and quality of life; comprehensive, unique and harmonious economic, cultural and social development, typical of the whole country; have a development level on par with developed countries in the region and the world; be a globally connected, green - smart - peaceful - prosperous city; be a place worth visiting and staying, worth living and contributing.
The permanent population by 2050 will be about 13 - 13.5 million people; GRDP per capita in 2050 will reach about 45,000 - 46,000 USD; urbanization rate will be about 80 - 85% by 2050.
The permanent population in Hanoi by 2030 is about 10.5 million people; by 2045 about 12.5 million people and by 2050 about 13.0 million people. Along with Ho Chi Minh City, the capital Hanoi plays the role of the country's growth pole, holding a key position in the dynamic triangle of the Red River Delta (Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh) and the development quadrilateral of the Northern region (Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh - Thanh Hoa).
The Capital Planning has set out key tasks and development breakthroughs. In particular, it emphasizes environmental protection; urban and rural development. Hanoi focuses on developing transport infrastructure, especially the urban railway system and ring roads; focuses on renovating old apartment buildings; eliminating the situation of self-built houses not following the planning, ensuring fire and explosion safety.
