Previously, at the 2nd Extraordinary Session in early January 2023, the National Assembly approved the position of Deputy Prime Minister for Mr. Tran Hong Ha.

Before holding the position of Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Tran Hong Ha had a long time working at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and held the following positions: Deputy Director of the Department of Environment, Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (later renamed the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), Acting Director, then Director of the Department of Environmental Protection; Deputy Director General in charge of the General Department of Environment.

Since July 2008, he has held the position of Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.

From January 2009 to June 2010, Mr. Tran Hong Ha was assigned to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee, then returned to the ministry and held the position of Deputy Minister until he became Minister of Natural Resources and Environment in April 2016.
