(CLO) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that he believes he can restore relations with US President Donald Trump after a tense meeting in the Oval Office.
However, he stressed that negotiations should continue in secret.

Mr Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine would not cede any territory to Russia in any peace deal. He also said he was ready to sign a mineral exploration deal with the US and described Sunday’s talks with European leaders on sending a draft peace plan to the US as an important step.
Speaking at a London airport after a meeting with European leaders, Mr. Zelenskyy sounded optimistic and thanked European countries for their support, but also acknowledged disappointment with the Oval Office meeting. He stressed that Ukraine would continue to maintain dialogue with the United States.
Mr. Zelenskyy also expressed readiness for any scenario: "I believe that our relations will continue. But I think that discussions like the recent ones should be kept secret to increase efficiency."
At the summit, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer proposed a European-drafted peace plan to be sent to Washington, hoping the US would provide security guarantees for Ukraine. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron proposed a temporary ceasefire for a month with Russia.
President Zelenskyy also affirmed that Ukraine is ready to sign a mineral exploitation agreement with the United States, an important step in the plan to reset relations between the two sides. In contrast, Mr. Trump said that Ukraine should use these resources to repay the financial support from the United States.
