Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy's real name is Vu Thi Quy, born in 1958 in Hanoi. The actress comes from a family of 8 siblings. Thanh Quy originally dreamed of becoming a librarian or a geologist when she grew up. However, thanks to her radiant and outstanding beauty, when she was only 15 years old, Thanh Quy was "targeted" by a director.
Hearing this director's advice to take the exam to become an actor, Thanh Quy did not hesitate to try and passed the second class of film actors with artists such as: Phuong Thanh, Minh Chau, Dieu Thuan...
As soon as she entered school, Thanh Quy was invited by director Khac Loi to participate in the movie Hai Nuoc Me , but for some reasons, the female artist missed the appointment with this movie.
But then, thanks to her outstanding talent and beauty, when she was only 18 years old and in her third year of the film acting class, Thanh Quy was assigned the role of Van - a straightforward and strong youth volunteer in the movie Stormy Car .
The following year, artist Thanh Quy continued to have a second role in Those Who Have Met . Thanks to this role, the actress received a certificate of merit from the jury at the 4th Vietnam Film Festival held in 1977 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Since then, Thanh Quy's talent and beauty became a highlight of the screen at that time. From 1976 to 1992, every year the female artist appeared in at least one film and received many prestigious awards such as the Golden Lotus Award for "Best Actress" at the 7th Vietnam Film Festival held in 1985.
Possessing a beautiful face with sharp, resolute features, Thanh Quy was often assigned roles with personality, with a tragic fate but always with a hidden vitality and strong resistance. At that time, people called the female artist by titles such as "Beautiful Woman", "Beauty of the Screen".
In television dramas, when she was young, Thanh Quy often played the roles of noble women with strong and multifaceted personalities in famous films such as: Fallen Leaves Season, Silver Swamp, Green Dawn, Street Stories...
In middle age, the female artist transformed into a thorny "boss" with a tragic fate full of sadness in the films: The Judge, Law of Heaven, A Lifetime of Enmity, Rose on the Left Chest...
In recent years, the female artist has become "familiar" with the role of a poor, hard-working mother in "Love the sunny days" and "Life is still beautiful". These roles were so impressive that when mentioning Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy, many young audiences only remember the austere appearance, always busy with work like "Mrs. Nga" or "Mrs. Tinh, the donut seller".
Sharing about the change in the type of role she was assigned, the witty female artist said: "Actually, I really want to play the role of a hard-working, struggling woman. I find Vietnamese women very precious and worthy of respect. They always sacrifice themselves for their family.
I also answered that I really wanted to take on such difficult, hard roles, but probably because my body was too fat and full, I couldn't. Therefore, I was often invited by directors to play sharp, formidable roles."
Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy left a strong impression with the role of Mrs. Tinh.
It can be said that since the age of 18 until now, the female artist has had a brilliant career, highly appreciated for both her talent and beauty. However, Thanh Quy always keeps sadness in her heart because when she was young, she was too busy with work and could not take care of her children.
The female artist said that if she were to rate being a mother, she would only get a 5 on a scale of 10: "At that time, I waited several years to get a role, and it was a task assigned by the agency, so it was inconvenient to refuse. Later, I felt regretful because time passed, and my child's childhood was something that could not be regained. Luckily, when she grew up, she understood and sympathized with me."
Currently, the female artist has a peaceful life with her daughter and grandchild. In her old age, she is satisfied with what she has:
"I am free to work, without having to think about anything. The salary from movies helps me to support my children and grandchildren in part of their lives. I have money to travel a few times a year and save for illness and sickness. To me, living a simple and leisurely life is happiness."
