Hon La Port is planned synchronously, including warehouse system, logistics area and modern technical works. The port has a strategic location, located in Hon La Bay, sheltered by Hon Co Island and Hon La Island. The port has an ideal natural depth, suitable for large tonnage ships.
Hon La International General Port serves Hon La Economic Zone, Industrial Zones in Quang Binh Province and transfers goods to Lao PDR and Northeastern Kingdom of Thailand. The port has the function of loading and unloading general cargo, containers, bulk cargo, liquid cargo, and international passenger ships.
This port is located about 6 nautical miles from the coastal shipping route, 360 nautical miles from the international shipping route in the East Sea, about 4km from National Highway 1A and 150km from Cha Lo International Border Gate. This is a favorable condition for connecting goods from Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and neighboring economic zones.
The Hon La International General Port Project has a total investment of nearly 2,300 billion VND, covering an area of over 39 hectares. The project is divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 will build 2 ports with a total length of 470m, receiving general cargo ships with a capacity of up to 50,000 DWT, and bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 70,000 DWT. The expected capacity will reach 3 million tons/year. Phase 2 in 2027, the unit will build 2 more ports with a total length of 500m, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 DWT. The expected capacity will reach 6 million tons/year.
Mr. Tran Phong, Chairman of Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee, said that Hon La international general port is one of the important ports, of strategic importance to the socio-economic development of the country in general and of Quang Binh province in particular.
“With a favorable location in terms of sea lanes and road traffic, Hon La International General Port, once completed and put into use, will become an important freight transit bridge in the region, receiving two-way goods from Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, China and major economic centers via sea. Not only playing an important role in freight transport, the port also has the function of receiving international cruise ships, opening up opportunities for developing sea tourism, contributing to creating a driving force for sustainable growth for Quang Binh province,” Mr. Tran Phong emphasized.
