Overcoming Thailand, Vietnamese Sepak Takraw won the World Cup for the first time

The Vietnamese sepak takraw team made history by winning the first gold medal at the ISTAF World Cup in Hyderabad, India. In the group stage, the Vietnamese women's team defeated South Korea (2-0), Myanmar (2-1) and France (2-0) to advance to the final.

In the 4-person team (quadrant) event, the female players including Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen, Nguyen Thi Yen, Nguyen Thi My, Tran Thi Ngoc Yen... under the guidance of coach Tran Thi Vui defeated the Thai women's team with a score of 2-1 (15-12, 12-15, 15-13).

This is the best achievement of Vietnamese rattan at the world arena. Previously, the best achievement of Vietnamese rattan at the World Cup was 5 silver medals. Thai rattan is still the most successful at the world tournament with 9 gold medals.

At the 2023 SEA Games, also in the 4-person team event, the Vietnamese women's team lost to Thailand in the final and won the silver medal. However, the Vietnamese sepak takraw team still won the gold medal in the doubles event with the victory of Ngoc Huyen and Nguyen Thi Yen against the Myanmar team.
