The army is adjusting its force organization.

The above information was announced by Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, at the working session of the Minister and leaders of the Ministry of National Defense with the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army.

Deputy Chief of the General Staff Huynh Chien Thang said that in 2023, implementing the theme "Year of force adjustment", the General Staff directed the entire army to seriously implement Resolution No. 05 of the Politburo, Resolution No. 230 of the Central Military Commission, Plan No. 1228 of the Ministry of National Defense on the organization of the Vietnam People's Army for the period 2021 - 2030 and the following years.

At the same time, the General Staff has adjusted the organization of forces closely and scientifically, learning from experience while working and adjusting plans appropriately, creating high consensus and unity throughout the army.

In 2023, to implement the above tasks, the General Staff completed the project of the list of titles, leadership, command and management positions in the Vietnam People's Army. At the same time, it established, transferred, merged, dissolved, reorganized and completed the organizational structure of over 1,400 organizations in the direction of being lean, compact and strong.

Minister of Defense Phan Van Giang gave a directive speech at the meeting.

According to General Huynh Chien Thang, in 2024, the General Staff determined to continue to thoroughly grasp and seriously and effectively implement the Central Military Commission's resolution on leading the implementation of military and defense tasks and building the Army Party Committee in 2024. This year's theme is determined to be: "The year of basically completing the adjustment of the force organization towards being lean, compact, and strong".

The Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army stated that the focus of work in 2024 is to improve the capacity to research, forecast, evaluate, grasp the situation, promptly advise the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense on policies and strategies to handle situations, and avoid being passive or surprised.

At the same time, focus on consulting and flexibly, effectively handling issues of sea, islands, borders, key areas, etc.

Regarding the task of adjusting the force organization, Mr. Thang said that the General Staff will lead the implementation with quality, efficiency, and on schedule, with the theme of 2024 being "the year of basically completing the adjustment of the force organization towards being lean, compact, and strong".

In addition, the General Staff also aims to develop a draft law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Military Service in 2015; summarize the Law on Professional Soldiers, Workers and National Defense Officials in 2015. Speaking at the meeting, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang requested the General Staff to closely follow the resolutions and orders of 2024 to direct the entire army to concretize them into policies and plans, organize and implement them resolutely from the beginning of the year, and strive to comprehensively complete the tasks with better results than in 2023.

The Minister of National Defense requested to well implement the theme of 2024, "The year of basically completing the adjustment of the force organization towards being lean, compact, and strong"; focusing on adjusting and promulgating the organizational structure and regulations on functions, tasks, powers, and working relationships of agencies and units. Directing the purchase, production, improvement, and repair of technical equipment strictly and in accordance with regulations.

Minister Phan Van Giang also noted that it is necessary to improve the quality and effectiveness of national defense and security education, activities of militia and self-defense forces, and reserve mobilization forces; proactively and actively develop plans and options, prepare forces and means, and be ready to effectively handle natural disasters, epidemics, and rescue situations.
