Developing high-class and smart coastal urban areas
Currently, Phu Quoc has rare natural privileges, with 22 large and small islands and an area of nearly 600 km 2 , almost equivalent to the island nation of Singapore, along with beautiful scenery comparable to the Maldives. With its unique indigenous cultural identity, Phu Quoc can completely research the development model into a coastal urban center, a resort tourism center and high-class services.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed that in order to develop into a high-class, unique coastal urban center, Phu Quoc needs to focus on developing space towards the sea. At the same time, it is necessary to form international-class trade and tourism service centers, exploiting the advantages of the sea and islands to develop compact urban areas.

“The city must be modern and must take advantage of the height and underground space, this is very necessary for Phu Quoc” - the Deputy Prime Minister stated. To do that, the Deputy Prime Minister requested Phu Quoc to balance development and environmental protection, and to take advantage of spaces to form green areas. It is necessary to develop so that there are forests in the city, and urban development in the middle of the forest, and to take advantage of spaces to form green areas.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Phu Quoc needs a strategy with a longer-term vision to face the challenges of developing an island urban area. Accordingly, in addition to preserving the island’s ecosystem (forest, sea, water, coral reefs, etc.), clean water is a vital issue for the primary forest ecosystem, as well as for the future development of the city.
In addition, building smart cities is essential, from smart transportation, smart water supply and drainage to developing a collection and recycling system according to a circular economy.
“Phu Quoc must strive from now until 2030 to have over 70% of its means of transport convenient, smart, and public. This is the desired goal that Phu Quoc needs to achieve,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Building multifunctional urban areas with unique architectural values
With rapid development in the past 10 years, Phu Quoc has made its mark internationally with many unique tourist and entertainment complexes and architectural works. For example, in An Thoi, the town of Hoang Hon has the beauty of a coastal Mediterranean town, or Cau Hon - the first non-touch bridge in the world, has become an iconic architectural work of the Pearl Island.

However, to become a world destination, Phu Quoc needs to be built into a multifunctional urban area including tourism, entertainment, commerce, offices, services, schools, hospitals and public spaces. Phu Quoc also needs more international-class projects, bearing the unique identity of the Pearl Island.
To do that, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha directed Phu Quoc to continue reviewing the planning, making detailed plans and mobilizing resources from experts, scientists to the best designers in the world to form a coastal city with valuable and unique architecture that cannot be found anywhere else. "There needs to be a mechanism to use state resources to invite the best architects in the world to change the planning, creating a planning treasure for future generations here" - said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Reviewing the progress of implementing key APEC 2027 projects
The APEC 2027 Conference is considered a historic opportunity for Phu Quoc to arrange and adjust the detailed planning of each area, and synchronously build it into a unique coastal urban center, a high-end resort and service tourism center. Accordingly, in addition to high-end air, water and land transport projects, a series of large-scale projects will be built such as the Convention and Exhibition Center to serve the needs of organizing international conferences and seminars; APEC Square; High-rise mixed-use area including hotels, duty-free shopping malls; The iconic 69-storey building combining offices, hotels, shopping malls and marinas...
Aspira Tower
On Hon Thom Island alone, the 220m-high Aspira Tower, designed with inspiration from the image of a giant sail, will become a luxury resort - entertainment - commercial complex and will soon be completed to welcome APEC 2027.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of projects serving the APEC 2027 summit week, the Deputy Prime Minister directed Phu Quoc to do well in investment preparation and site clearance for projects. At the same time, it is necessary to accelerate investment promotion, attract strategic investors from both domestic and international sources to have enough potential and capacity to participate in infrastructure and service projects, in the short term to serve APEC 2027 and in the long term to serve the development of Phu Quoc. Phu Quoc also needs to urgently negotiate and identify invested projects that are qualified to serve APEC in order to have plans to renovate and improve quality, ensuring the highest standards when hosting APEC. Infrastructure projects serving APEC must ensure reasonable functions, save energy, be in harmony with the natural landscape environment, and be consistent with the cultural identity of Phu Quoc and Vietnam, to become a highlight for the development of Phu Quoc.
APEC Conference and Exhibition Center
APEC 2027 is a special "unique" opportunity to help Phu Quoc become the center of the world, affirming its position as one of the most beautiful tourist paradises on the planet, demonstrating the capacity to organize important, world-class events of Vietnam, Kien Giang and Phu Quoc. With that meaning, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the urgent preparation in the most thoughtful way, ensuring the best success of the APEC 2027 Summit Week is a heavy task for the Government, the Prime Minister, ministries, central agencies and most practically in Kien Giang, Phu Quoc city and the entire political system must all participate closely.
