Prevent infectious diseases by maintaining “clean hands”

“Washing hands with soap – Why is it important” is the theme of the rally organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with a number of agencies to prevent infectious diseases and protect people's health.

The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the People's Committee of Da Nang City, the Vietnam Women's Union and Unilever Vietnam International Company Limited, organized a rally in response to the Global Handwashing Day with Soap in Da Nang City with the theme "Handwashing with soap - Why is it important?"

“Washing hands with soap – Why is it important” is the theme of the rally organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with a number of agencies to prevent infectious diseases and protect people's health.

Speaking at the rally, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, Deputy Minister of Health, emphasized the importance of hand hygiene in disease prevention and control in the community as well as infection prevention and control in medical facilities.

The Deputy Minister of Health also said that the theme of this year's Global Handwashing Day is "Handwashing with soap - Why is it important" with the aim of communicating to the general public and the community about the importance of handwashing with soap;

At the same time, we call on all levels and sectors to coordinate more to ensure the achievement of hand hygiene goals and take action to widely spread the habit of regular hand hygiene, anytime, anywhere, contributing to disease prevention and control.

Through launching this rally, the Ministry of Health requests ministries, branches, Women's Union and socio-political organizations, authorities at all levels and press agencies to continue to coordinate with the health sector to promote communication to raise awareness about the benefits and effectiveness of handwashing with soap in disease prevention and control;

The Ministry also hopes that agencies will promote hygiene education and hand washing with soap in schools for students; ensure adequate provision and arrangement of hand washing areas, clean water, and soap so that everyone has the conditions to practice hand washing regularly; and have solutions to ensure adequate supply of clean water for daily life, adapting to climate change and natural disasters such as storms, floods, droughts, and saltwater intrusion.

At the rally, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, also called on all people in the city, parents, caregivers at schools, and households with young children to voluntarily implement hygiene measures in accordance with the instructions of the health sector.

From the specific actions of each citizen with the motto: clean food, clean living, clean hands and clean toys, will contribute to joining hands with authorities at all levels and the health sector to push back diseases in general and especially infectious diseases.

On behalf of the Vietnam Women's Union, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice President of the Union, highly appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Health, the People's Committees of localities as well as the support of Unilever Vietnam International Company Limited in taking care of the health of the people in general and guiding hygiene practices in particular, in which, special attention is paid to women and children.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong shared about the Campaign to build a Family of "5 no 3 clean" and a Family of "5 yes 3 clean" implemented by the Association at all levels over the past many years.

The “3 clean” criteria of the Campaign has created a widespread influence, attracting the attention of all levels and sectors and has been included in criteria 17.8 and 18.7 in the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, aiming to change the awareness and behavior of women and the community in environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, and household hygiene.

With the message “3 clean families – starting with hand washing with soap”, the Vietnam Women’s Union hopes for the cooperation of all levels, sectors and organizations in promoting communication to raise awareness, change attitudes and skills in hand washing with soap in the community, starting from each family member.

Thereby, contributing to personal, family and community health care and soon achieving the criteria of "3 clean" in the National Target Program for New Rural Areas. "3 clean family - starting with hand washing with soap" is the most practical practice model of the Vietnam Women's Union at all levels participating in responding to the World Handwashing Day with soap in 2024 and many years to come.

A series of diverse activities in response to World Handwashing Day with soap include: Organizing a rally with the theme "Handwashing with soap - Why is it important" and organizing communication activities such as: Hanging billboards, banners, and communication slogans about handwashing with soap to prevent epidemics for a healthy Vietnam;

At the same time, a game about washing hands with soap will be organized; a series of news, articles, and images about the rally, activities on environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, and disease prevention will be posted on mass media and the Ministry of Health's communication channels.
