Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang visits families affected by floods in Dien Bien

On the afternoon of August 4, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and his delegation visited and encouraged people affected by floods in Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang inspected the landslide site in Muong Pon 1 village and the flash flood areas in Ban Linh and Ban Tin Toc; visited and encouraged the "four on-site" forces working to overcome the consequences of the flood; visited, encouraged and presented gifts to families with dead or missing relatives in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien district.

The Deputy Prime Minister sent his warm regards from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and shared the difficulties and losses of life, property and livelihoods of the Party Committee, government and people affected by floods in Dien Bien province in general and Muong Pon commune in particular.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested the authorities of Dien Bien province at all levels to focus on quickly overcoming the consequences of floods and storms; implement support policies to help people quickly stabilize their lives, especially vulnerable groups, poor households, and households in difficulty who have lost relatives and homes due to natural disasters.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested that the authorities of Dien Bien province at all levels, in the long term, need to calculate population arrangements to ensure the safety of life, property and livelihoods for people in mountainous areas.

From the beginning of the year to August 2, Dien Bien province was affected by 26 natural disasters including severe cold, thunderstorms, lightning, hail, heavy rain, floods, flash floods, and landslides, causing damage to people and property of the State and people in the province.

In particular, from July 23 to August 2, Dien Bien province was affected by two large-scale heavy rains due to the influence of storm No. 2 and low pressure trough passing through the North.

Heavy rains have caused flash floods and landslides in most districts of Dien Bien province, including a serious flash flood and landslide in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien district in the early morning of July 25.

According to statistics, natural disasters since the beginning of the year have killed 8 people, left 4 missing, and injured 12 people, of which 4 people died and 3 people went missing in Dien Bien district alone.

Regarding housing, Dien Bien province said that 1,365 houses were damaged, of which 31 houses collapsed or were swept away, and 163 houses had to be urgently evacuated, mainly concentrated in Dien Bien district.

More than 728 hectares of rice were buried and washed away; 830 hectares of perennial crops were damaged; 1,754 poultry were washed away; 25.33 hectares of aquaculture were completely damaged.

In the province, there are 50 inter-commune and inter-village roads damaged by landslides, of which Nam Po district has 11 routes, Tua Chua district has 12 routes, Muong Nhe district has 9 routes, and Muong Cha district has 5 routes.
