Promoting the role of the Party newspaper system in protecting the Party's ideological foundation

The workshop was chaired by: Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Le Van Loi, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication.

Attending the workshop were representatives of leaders of many departments, ministries, branches, central and local agencies, scientists, experts, journalists, teachers, students and trainees.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, comrade Le Quoc Minh stated: More than 99 years ago, on June 21, 1925, the Thanh Nien newspaper founded by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc published its first issue, marking the birth of the Vietnamese revolutionary press. During the process of leading the revolution, he always emphasized the very important role and position of the press and journalists, especially the "Party newspapers".

He said: Our Party is strong because our Party has a unified ideology and unified actions from top to bottom. The Party newspaper has the task of making ideology and action clear and unified... The Party newspaper is like a simple, practical and widespread training course. It teaches us what we need to know about propaganda, organization, leadership and work. Every day it helps to improve our political level and work productivity.

Since then, under the leadership of the Party, our country's Party newspaper system has continuously grown and developed in all aspects, producing generations of cadres and journalists with "bright eyes, pure hearts, and sharp pens", always worthy of being the core force on the Party's ideological front, playing a central role in carrying out political tasks that the Party, State and people trust and entrust to the press, doing a good job of information and propaganda work, being a bridge between the Party, State and people, actively building and enriching the cultural and spiritual life of the people, making great contributions to the Party's revolutionary cause, the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh said that the Party newspaper system has always received the trust and expectations of the Party, the State and the people, becoming prestigious news and press brands domestically and internationally. In particular, since the 12th Politburo issued Resolution No. 35-NQ/TW, dated October 22, 2018 on "Strengthening the protection of the Party's ideological foundation, fighting against erroneous and hostile views in the new situation", press agencies in the Party newspaper system have always proactively and effectively participated, in many diverse forms and creative ways. Special pages, columns and articles on protecting the Party's ideological foundation are maintained regularly. Among them, there are many excellent works that resonate, deeply impacting the understanding, awareness and attitudes of cadres, Party members and the masses, consolidating people's trust in the Party and the path to socialism; Contribute to quickly bringing the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws into practical life; at the same time grasp, identify and promptly and effectively fight against erroneous and hostile viewpoints.

Party press agencies simultaneously play a core and leading role in orienting public opinion, spreading and enhancing positive information in the daily news flow, and promptly reflecting the people's thoughts, aspirations and legitimate recommendations, contributing to consolidating and cultivating the flesh-and-blood relationship between the Party and the people and the great national unity bloc.

The Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department analyzed in depth the new difficulties and challenges facing Party press agencies in protecting the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against erroneous and hostile viewpoints, especially when our country is increasingly integrating internationally. Along with that, the explosion of information on the Internet and social networks creates opportunities for hostile and reactionary forces to infiltrate and sabotage the Party's ideological foundation in cyberspace.

Comrade Le Quoc Minh said that the activities of some Party press agencies have not yet caught up with new trends in press activities, especially in digital transformation. Some places have not proactively developed information and propaganda plans on protecting the Party's ideological foundation, lacking sharp writers, in-depth works, and high combativeness on protecting the Party's ideological foundation. The form of expressing works is not vivid, attractive, and not close to the public, especially the youth. The method of journalism and the approach to readers are still limited, leading to the spreading effect of articles on protecting the Party's ideological foundation being low and lacking in persuasiveness. The work of fighting against wrong and hostile viewpoints in some press agencies is not timely, sensitive, etc.

"Therefore, it is necessary to have comprehensive, synchronous and effective solutions to further improve the quality of activities of Party press agencies in the new situation, both contributing to realizing the goal of building a professional, humane and modern press and media in the spirit of the 13th National Party Congress, and ensuring the participation of Party press agencies in protecting the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against erroneous and hostile viewpoints more effectively," Comrade Le Quoc Minh emphasized.

Professor, Dr. Le Van Loi, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, presented the introduction to the conference, affirming: Over the past time, with the attention, care and nurturing of the Party and the State, the press agencies and the Party newspaper system have constantly strived to achieve strong and comprehensive development steps, increasingly better meeting political tasks, effectively propagating the protection of the Party's ideological foundation, and fighting against erroneous and hostile viewpoints. With their intelligence and sharp pens, the Party newspaper agencies have always been at the forefront of the struggle, effectively, decisively and convincingly exposing the nature, plots, tricks and wrongful activities of hostile, reactionary and opportunistic political forces. This has created the reputation and prestige of the Party newspaper agencies, especially Nhan Dan Newspaper, Communist Magazine and local Party newspapers nationwide.

More than 60 papers and opinions submitted and presented at the workshop, from many perspectives, affirmed: Continuing to improve the quality and promote more effectively the key role of the Party newspaper system in implementing Resolution No. 35 of the Politburo is currently very necessary and urgent. Many delegates frankly exchanged research, democratically discussed and clarified the theoretical and practical basis of the Party newspaper system in implementing Resolution No. 35. The workshop also focused on objectively and comprehensively assessing the current situation, sharing experiences, proposing solutions and recommendations to promote more effectively the role of the Party newspaper system in protecting the Party's ideological foundation, fighting against erroneous and hostile views in the coming time.
