(CLO) Always wanting to be a pioneer in implementing digital transformation and applying artificial intelligence (AI) in their province and city operations, many local Party newspapers have proactively joined in to improve work efficiency, content management efficiency, improve information quality and attract the public.

Save time, money and human resources

The 4.0 revolution has accelerated the process of digital transformation in journalism. Many local Party press agencies have identified digital transformation as an important factor for development, so they have taken drastic action and initially achieved quite clear results.

In recent times, Thai Binh Newspaper has applied many modern technologies to help the process of creating and presenting content. In particular, the application of AI artificial intelligence technology using virtual MCs to replace real MCs in the production of video news programs, helping to save time, money, and human resources. Demonstrating a modern journalism style - multimedia, multi-platform.

To have synchronization in administration, creating sustainable development for the management system of electronic and printed newspapers, Thai Binh Newspaper has integrated artificial intelligence applications, boldly invested in completing the converged newsroom, including upgrading modern CMS, helping to handle "one-touch" operations, circulating right in the same CMS system.

In which, a server system has been built to store and transmit data. At the same time, accounts for sending and receiving data for reporters, collaborators, and collaborating agencies to send to the editorial office in the fastest way, sending and receiving large files. From there, it helps to exploit data to create works conveniently and effectively.

To gradually apply AI to all stages of the editorial office's operations, every year, Thai Binh Newspaper has a training plan to increase the percentage of reporters who can use new technology, apply AI, and work in multimedia...

Currently, in some TV and radio news, Thai Binh Newspaper has used artificial intelligence voice (Voice AI) to publish products instead of having to wait for readers from the announcer. In addition, AI applications are used to optimize SEO, keywords for articles...

Journalist Tran Thi Thoa, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Thai Binh Newspaper, said: Taking advantage of the technology from the 4.0 revolution, Thai Binh Newspaper has applied many artificial intelligence tools to serve the process of producing news and articles, especially multimedia news articles. Most recently, Thai Binh Electronic Newspaper has applied virtual studio technology (iSet3D), which is the most modern virtual studio technology today, changing 3D shooting angles, using new AI tools to create video ideas to help flexibly change studio scenes, reducing human resources, time and costs in program production.

Thanks to the effective use of artificial intelligence tools, the newspaper has added more products on social networking platforms, helping to bring information quickly and accurately to every corner of the digital environment, thereby helping the public access information anytime, anywhere. Turning the seemingly dry political and social issues of the local Party newspaper into something familiar and widely accepted by the public.

Create a more dynamic, creative and innovative working atmosphere

Many years ago, Dak Nong Newspaper did not have professional announcers to produce programs and television news integrated into Dak Nong Electronic Newspaper. Therefore, at that time, reporters had to write news and articles, be editors, host programs, MCs, and even set up images. Sometimes, after a whole day of work, reporters would return to the editorial office to read the news and articles. As a result, many news and articles were significantly less hot and topical.

Faced with this problem, the Editorial Board of Dak Nong Newspaper decided to deploy an AI application with the ability to automatically read MCs. Since having the AI application's virtual MC, immediately after receiving information, the technical department immediately gives the text (news content, articles) to AI to read, ensuring the "freshness" of press information. AI's virtual MC has many different reading voices from Southern, Central to Northern to choose from with the ability to work day and night, without a single complaint, whining and without demanding benefits, but more importantly, the work efficiency is higher.

Not only stopping at applying AI virtual MC, Dak Nong Newspaper has recently applied it to replace some tasks that reporters and editors previously had a hard time with, such as transcribing after an interview, or using AI to skim long documents and texts, thereby summarizing the main ideas to develop an outline for a journalistic work. In addition, Dak Nong Newspaper has used AI in automatic graphics to quickly serve modern journalistic works such as E-Magazine, Longform, multimedia, etc.

Technology, including AI, helps press agencies, even small ones like Dak Nong Newspaper, to apply modern technologies like any other press agency. AI helps shorten the time and save costs... in producing news and articles. Newsrooms, even small ones with limited human and financial resources, if boldly applying it, will have the conditions to rise up and create more value for their own work.

Journalist Vu Ngoc Tu - Editor-in-Chief of Dak Nong Newspaper said: "We organize training on AI applications in the editorial office through seminars, training programs... The editorial board invites journalists with experience in AI applications to train the entire agency. Some applications are integrated in the content management system (CMS), we set up support groups (including people from partner units and officials in the agency), many times "holding hands to guide", sometimes going to each user operation to "break the ice" or avoid confusion and mistakes. When all staff use AI, it has created a more dynamic, creative and innovative working atmosphere" .

In reality, Party newspapers in many localities, although having different ways of organizing and implementing AI applications, have in common the obvious point that they save more time, human resources and costs. From there, the progress of news and article production is accelerated. Content is more strictly controlled, with fewer errors and good information efficiency. The form of the product is also better thanks to the application of graphics, images...

The success of AI applications in local Party newspapers marks an important milestone for the development of AI in journalism. If 2024 is considered the year when press agencies begin to apply AI, then 2025 could be the period of refining and optimizing this technology to better meet the specific needs of each newsroom.
