It is not difficult to list the "tasks" that the press has done in the "war" against the "national disaster" of corruption and negativity.
The press is a selective forum.
True to President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, the press is a front; reporters, editors... are the shock troops on that front.
In particular, the press agencies have clearly demonstrated their pioneering, pioneering role in the fight against corruption and negativity, protecting the interests of the State and the legitimate rights and interests of the People; the press is both the eyes and ears of the Party and the bridge between the Party and the People in the fight against corruption and negativity that is becoming increasingly stronger, more determined and more effective, and actively criticizing the phenomenon of corruption, contributing to pointing out the causes and social consequences of this phenomenon.
Many experts say that although there are still some newspapers that, at some times, report news related to corruption and negativity in a way that attracts readers, this is only a "phenomenon" and not "common".
The press is promoting the spirit of “supporting the righteous and destroying the evil”, overcoming difficulties in the face of the influence of social networks to stand firm and affirm the information mainstream. It is the press, not any other social media, that is the source of “correcting” and “reinforcing” the truth in the face of “mixed truth and falsehood” information and “rumored rumors” that are rampant on social networks.
The press is a selective forum that systematically and methodically researches and investigates before publishing opinions reflecting, responding to, and criticizing corruption and negative phenomena from the grassroots.
At the same time, the press also contributes to publicizing information provided by the people about phenomena and events that show signs of corruption; publicizing information discovered by the press through investigation and discovery of phenomena that show signs of corruption; providing timely and accurate information about corruption cases that are being investigated and handled... actively contributing to creating public opinion to fight against corruption.
In addition, the press also encourages, forms and develops awareness of corruption prevention and control; creates forums for people to exercise their freedom of speech, reflect recommendations and proposals on policies and legal regulations that are not really suitable for real life.
Look straight, evaluate the truth
In recent times, many cases of corruption, waste and negativity have been discovered through investigations and reporting by press agencies. Press agencies have also taken the lead in speaking out about many cases of “lightning-fast appointments” that have caused public outrage in a number of sectors and localities, and many “boils” in a number of public agencies.
Through the discovery of the press, many cases of cadres, party members, civil servants, and public employees running for positions, power, rotation, projects, degrees, etc. have been promptly handled by the authorities.
The press has also contributed to discovering, investigating, and exposing many investment projects worth thousands of billions of dong that have not yet been put into operation but have been lost, causing a huge waste of public assets. The press has also been involved in all areas, including those considered sensitive such as: police, defense, handling of officials, etc.
The press has also frankly reported on cases involving a number of high-ranking officials in ministries and localities. Many negative incidents among a number of officials have also been promptly handled by the authorities thanks to information discovered and published in the mass media.
The public and transparent information in the press has helped authorities have more grounds and evidence to investigate and verify corruption cases.
On the other hand, information about corruption and negativity in the press is the voice of public opinion to create social pressure to urge the authorities to quickly intervene to clarify the issues raised by the press. In fact, many corruption cases that seemed to have sunk into oblivion have been brought to light and handled with the right people and the right crimes thanks to the contribution of the press.
Currently, the fight against corruption and negativity is continuing with a resolute spirit. According to experts, the press is continuing to better promote its role of monitoring and criticizing society. Writers have the right and responsibility to criticize with the attitude of "looking straight at the truth, correctly evaluating the truth, and clearly stating the truth" according to the conscience of a soldier journalist.
To create conditions for the press to properly demonstrate its role as a soldier on the front line of fighting against corruption, law enforcement agencies, ministries and sectors themselves must be open and transparent in their operations. When open and transparent, the press will actively participate in criticism.
Along with that, on the press side, the issue of journalistic ethics also needs to be put first. Journalists with a bright mind, determination, and courage will certainly complete their assigned tasks well, playing an important role in fighting negativity and stagnation in the apparatus.
At the conference summarizing 10 years of anti-corruption and anti-negativity work in the period of 2012 - 2022, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed: “Information and propaganda work has many innovations, especially promoting the role of the press and media in anti-corruption. Publicizing the results of inspections, examinations, and handling of corruption and economic cases; proactively providing information on sensitive issues of public concern, helping to orient public opinion well and also demonstrating the openness and transparency of the Party and State in handling corruption. News agencies and newspapers have actively accompanied functional agencies in anti-corruption; there are many news and articles on anti-corruption work, fighting against and refuting the distorted arguments of hostile forces about the anti-corruption work of our Party and State”.
