Many farmers in Duc Linh commune (Vu Quang, Ha Tinh) have boldly converted and improved low-productivity land to raise black apple snails, bringing in a good source of income.
After more than 3 years of raising black apple snails, up to now, more than 4,000m2 of water surface of Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh's family (Thanh Binh village, Duc Linh commune) has initially brought about quite good economic efficiency.
The interdisciplinary delegation of Vu Quang district inspected the black apple snail farming model of Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh's family.
Mr. Thanh said: “In 2020, realizing that black apple snails are a highly nutritious dish, popular with people but increasingly scarce in the natural environment, after consulting many models inside and outside the province, I decided to invest in raising this mollusk to increase my family's income."
From the beginning of 2023 until now, Mr. Thanh's family has sold more than 2 tons of commercial snails, earning 180 million VND.
When starting to raise black apple snails, Mr. Thanh renovated nearly 4,000 square meters of his family's water surface and built a farming system that met technical standards. After completing the pond, Mr. Thanh divided the area into 10 cells and released more than 40,000 snails for the first batch.
“Over the years, the model has brought in a good income for my family. In particular, from the beginning of 2023 until now, I have sold more than 2 tons of commercial snails, earning 180 million VND. In addition, I also sold nearly 200,000 snail seeds, earning nearly 40 million VND. This source of income has helped my family stabilize their lives and have the conditions to expand their scale in the near future,” Thanh shared.
It is known that Mr. Thanh's family has just released 50,000 more snails; the snails have adapted and grown well, and are expected to be harvested next December with a fairly high yield.
Since 2021, the black apple snail farming model of Mr. Nguyen Trong Than (Thanh Son village) has brought in a good income for his family.

Mr. Than said that black apple snails are easy to raise but must be kept in a clean water environment. During the raising process, to keep the snails healthy and grow quickly, it is necessary to pay attention to providing a sufficient amount of food, regularly, and not overfeeding to limit the situation of excess food causing water pollution. In addition to being cleaned with preparations, the pond must be shaded with duckweed for the snails, and the water level must be ensured depending on weather conditions.
“Thanks to following the farming process, the snails grow quickly. In 2023, my family sold more than 1 ton of snail meat, bringing in nearly 90 million VND in revenue. In the near future, I will expand the scale to increase income for my family,” Mr. Than shared.
