On the evening of August 6, while the streets were bustling with the 1st River Festival 2023 organized by Ho Chi Minh City, inside the City Theater, a classic work staged by a young female director touched the hearts of many theater-loving audiences.

That is the play "Swan Night" adapted by Hoang Thai Thanh from the work "Swan Song" by Anton Chekhov, which was staged 15 years ago under the name "Swan Shadow". And on the night of August 6, it was performed through the direction of Thao Nguyen.
Meritorious Artist Director Ca Le Hong congratulated the success of young director Thao Nguyen after watching the play "Swan Night" at the City Theater.
Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong and many famous artists, including director Meritorious Artist Thanh Hoi, director Ai Nhu, director Minh Nguyet, director Lien Kim Cuc, author Phuong Vy, Stage Master Bich Phuong, director Quang Minh... came to watch and cheer for the new version of "Swan Night".
It was the consent of Meritorious Artist Director Thanh Hoi and Director Ai Nhu to use the adapted literary script, their young colleagues confidently ignited their creativity and passion, so that the story of "Swan Night" not only conveyed all the feelings, moods and dreams of an artist's life, but also the desire to work on a stage that is truly a cathedral.
Classic literary plays are a solid foundation for young actors to exchange acting skills. Actor Nguyen Khanh gave an emotional performance in the play "Swan Night".
First of all, they were considered reckless when making a classic work beyond their capabilities, and moreover, daring to "play it big" when performing at the City Theater. But they did not waste their efforts and money because their burning dream came true, marking a performance that brought many emotions and contributed to honoring the results of training the successor team of dedicated teachers at the Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts.
They gave the teachers who guided them meaningful gifts, expressing gratitude for their guidance and support so that they could confidently enter the profession.

Nguyen Khanh and Bao Dang, along with the young cast in the crowd roles and illustrative dances, created the sparkle of the dramatic story.
There, in a dark corner of the dilapidated theater, the old artist and the person who specialized in the work of reminding people met. The desire to do the job seriously, the magic from the attraction of the public through the nightly applause in their memories helped them light up the stage's halo. Nguyen Khanh and Bao Dang brought their own emotions, the burning passion for making art, covering the halo of fame and glory in the souls of the two old artists with rays of hope for themselves.

Watching the play, I thought it was a graduation report of young students, but no, it was a performance where they were not alone on their journey to enter the profession.
Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong believes that the life of an artist is like that of a silkworm spinning silk and that passion for the profession will help artists overcome all harsh adversities, even suffering many misfortunes but they still exhaust themselves for the sanctuary of art.
The play "Swan Night" carries the sadness of an artist's life of wandering around looking for a theater, just like today's young actors and directors, who finish school, graduate and then suffer unemployment.
The story of the lives of famous artists in their twilight years is no longer strange to the audience, but in "Swan Night", with a new staging idea, viewers have shown much sympathy for the humanistic perspective of director Thao Nguyen.
Because, she vividly portrayed the tragic fate of artists in their twilight years, but they never lived in solitude because of their will to always light the sacred temple of love for the profession. Besides, the music, scenery, props, and lighting were also handled very convincingly.

The play ended with the audience leaving in excitement, because they believed that the passion for the stage was still burning in the hearts of the director and young actors. And as a promise that they would do their jobs properly to live up to the spirit of "Swan Night" that the previous generation had passed on.
