Efforts to realize the goal of welcoming 9.1 million tourists

According to information from the Hai Phong Department of Tourism, in 2024, the locality aims to welcome 9.1 million tourists, including 1 million international visitors, more than 1.2 million higher than in 2023.

Last May, with the focus on the April 30 - May 1 holiday, Hai Phong tourism is estimated to welcome nearly 780,000 visitors, an increase of more than 18% over the same period in 2023, with tourism revenue estimated at nearly 935 billion VND.

In the first 5 months of 2024, Hai Phong tourism welcomed more than 3 million visitors, including more than 410,000 international visitors, with tourism revenue estimated at VND 3,684 billion.

Thus, in the remaining 7 months, Hai Phong tourism must welcome at least 6.1 million visitors, including 590,000 international visitors, to complete the year's target.

Talking to Nguoi Dua Tin about this issue, Mr. Hoang Tuan Anh - Permanent Vice President of Hai Phong Tourism Association, said that if we do a simple calculation, this is quite a heavy task because on average, from the beginning of the year until now, Hai Phong tourism has only welcomed 600,000 visitors per month. And to complete the set target, the locality needs to welcome nearly 760,000 visitors per month on average.

However, in the third quarter of 2024, there is a very high chance for Hai Phong tourism to make a spectacular breakthrough. Because June, July and August every year are the "main season" for localities with strengths in sea and island tourism, including Hai Phong City with the attraction of two famous sea and island tourist areas, Do Son and Cat Ba.

The good news is that recently, with the efforts of the Hai Phong City government, Do Son district and Cat Hai district, as well as the contribution of businesses, the "weaknesses" of Do Son tourism as well as Cat Ba tourism are gradually being overcome.

In Do Son district, the opening of Vung Huong public beach in Van Huong ward (from April 28, 2024) has helped the locality have another ideal destination because this place does not have the scene of cloudy sea water in the summer, with lots of water hyacinth and ocean trash like the two beaches in Zone II and 295, which makes many tourists feel bored.

In addition, some entertainment spots at the tourist area in Van Huong ward, especially Thuy Tinh Water Park, help Do Son tourism no longer have a "reputation" for lacking large-scale entertainment spots.

For Cat Ba tourism, the traffic jam at the ferry terminal to the island has also “cooled down” a lot this summer. According to information from Cat Ba Sun Company Limited, from May 27 to August 31, the cable car ticket price from Cat Hai Island to Cat Ba Island will be reduced by 50%, from 100,000 VND/person/way to 50,000 VND/person/way. Children under 1m tall are free.

For visitors carrying large luggage (60cm long x 30cm wide x 80cm high or equivalent to 30kg), the transportation cost is equivalent to the cable car ticket price of VND 50,000/way.

A representative of Cat Ba Sun Company Limited informed Nguoi Dua Tin that since the ticket price adjustment until mid-June 2024, the number of tourists traveling to Cat Ba Island by cable car increased by nearly 290% compared to the same period in 2023.

According to Nguoi Dua Tin, despite the large number of passengers, there was no long waiting time at the stations because the cable cars flexibly adjusted their operating hours: The cable cars ran earlier than the operating hours, and ran continuously until all passengers were loaded.

In addition, according to Nguoi Dua Tin 's source, the first newly built ferry in a series of ferries expected to be put into operation on the Dong Bai - Phu Long ferry route has been tested and is waiting for completion of procedures to be put into operation soon. Thereby, it will fundamentally solve the problem that has been a headache for many years: traffic congestion to Cat Ba Island during holidays, weekends, and peak tourist season.

In addition, compared to Do Son tourist area, Cat Ba tourist area has more advantages in attracting tourists, especially international tourists, in the fourth quarter of 2024. Although this time is considered the "low season" of island tourism, Cat Ba "Pearl Island" is a favorite destination for tourists who love to experience, explore and relax.
