In modern life, Ninh Binh women constantly learn, improve their knowledge, improve their capacity, strive to complete assigned tasks well, dare to think, dare to do in economic development... thereby, affirming their role and position in the family, society, creating a spreading influence in the community. They are "beautiful flowers" on their own day, International Women's Day, March 8.
In the past, many highland communes of Nho Quan district still had male-dominated ideology, some long-standing customs and practices that made women a vulnerable group. However, gender equality activities that have been promoted in recent times have contributed to enhancing the role of women and girls. It is no longer uncommon for husbands to go to the market, cook or clean the house in families. Economic responsibilities are shared, so couples no longer place too much emphasis on housework. In addition, women also actively contribute to social work, participating in local cultural and artistic activities.
In Ky Phu commune, where the Muong ethnic group accounts for nearly 80%, Ms. Dinh Thi Thoa, Chairwoman of the Commune Women's Union, has long been known as a dynamic, enthusiastic Union official who is good at public affairs and good at housework. Ms. Thoa has participated in the Union's work since 2010, starting from the position of Vice Chairwoman of the Commune Women's Union. During her work, she has constantly strived to study to meet the requirements of the job.
In 2018, she was assigned to hold the position of President of the Commune Women's Union. In addition, she also participated in the People's Council, the Commune Party Executive Committee, etc. After completing her social work and returning to her family, she is a responsible woman, caring for her parents, husband and children, and nurturing family happiness.
Ms. Thoa shared: "A happy family is a solid foundation for women to confidently develop their careers. Being aware of this, I try to balance and arrange my time scientifically to complete well national and family affairs." According to Ms. Thoa, women have limitations compared to men when participating in social work because they have to take care of many family matters. However, that does not mean that women miss the opportunity to step out into society.
"In the past, life was difficult, gender inequality was quite serious, all family matters were decided by men, women had no opinion, so they had no voice. As life developed, gender inequality was gradually eliminated. Personally, I think women need to be proactive and actively participate in social work to increase communication and contact, gradually affirming their position and role in society. We always encourage and create conditions for women members to participate in local activities," said Ms. Thoa.
With the support of the Women's Union at all levels, the role and position of women are increasingly affirmed and enhanced in the family and society. Not only actively asserting themselves in social work, women members also show their acumen in economic development, making a significant contribution to local development.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chin, Director of Thanh Liem Company, is a typical female member in the economic development of Bich Dao ward, Ninh Binh city. Ms. Chin shared: "As a woman living in a modern society, I always think that I must constantly strive to become the master of my own life, financially independent, from there I will have the conditions to support and help those in difficulty around me.
In 2010, my husband and I founded Thanh Liem Company, trading in lighting equipment and interior decoration. In the early days of starting the business, without much experience, I encountered many difficulties. But with determination, my husband, I and my colleagues sought business solutions and expanded the market. After 14 years of establishment and development, the Company has expanded to 5 more business establishments in and outside the province with over 500 employees, including nearly 300 female workers, with an average income of 6-7 million VND/month."
In addition to economic development, Ms. Chin actively participates in movements and campaigns launched by the Women's Union, carrying out social security activities with hundreds of millions of VND each year. "Although my business is busy, I still arrange time to actively participate in Women's Union activities. As a Catholic woman, I am very interested in connecting Catholic and non-Catholic women, encouraging them to participate in Union activities, live a good life, respect God and love the country. Through Union activities, I understand more about patriotic emulation movements, campaigns and core tasks of the Union and clearly recognize my responsibility to the Women's Union and the community," Ms. Chin shared.
With her active contributions to local movements, Ms. Chin was awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee for Outstanding Catholic Women in the period of 2011-2016, and was awarded certificates of merit by People's Committees at all levels, and commended by Associations at all levels. Her family was recognized as a Cultural Family for many consecutive years.
In recent times, the emulation movement "Building Ninh Binh women of the new era" has been actively implemented by Women's Unions at all levels in the province, along with promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style and local emulation movements.
Responding to the movement, the whole province has over 90% of cadres and members participating with more than 700 projects and tasks, over 5,000 typical examples and models were recognized and rewarded. Through the movement, the pride and desire for development of Ninh Binh women has been aroused, aiming to build the image of a woman with knowledge, health, responsibility for herself, her family, society and country, with an elegant lifestyle, imbued with the characteristics of the people of the ancient capital Hoa Lu.
