Hanoi Nguyen Viet Ha, author of "Absolutely no trace" and Nguyen Mot, author of "Hour six to hour nine", received the Vietnam Writers Association award.
Honored in the prose category, Nguyen Viet Ha said: "Writing novels is a boring and discouraging job. I thank the award for motivating writers." He expressed his gratitude to the Vietnam Writers Association and Tre Publishing House for accompanying him in his career.
Nguyen Viet Ha, 62 years old, is one of the representative faces of the contemporary prose village. He has published a number of works such as Late Revelation (2005), Women Drinking Wine (2010), God's Opportunity (2013), and Old Quarter Boys (2013). Of these, God's Opportunity was translated into French and published in this country.
The two remaining works in the Prose category that won awards include: Novel From the Sixth Hour to the Ninth Hour (Nguyen Mot, Writers Association Publishing House), short story collection A Summer Under the Tree Shade (Nguyen Tham Thien Ke, Writers Association Publishing House).
Speaking about his feelings when receiving the award, writer Nguyen Mot said: "Most choices are only relative. But we believe that the choices of the Councils and Executive Committee are to recognize the voices of hearts, the humane eyes. We thank the Writers' Association and readers not only with empty words today but also need to continue to express in the future through written pages."
Writer Nguyen Mot, 60 years old, also goes by the pen name Da Thao Linh when writing children's books, such as Hoa du de, Nam dua tre xom doi, Long lanh gốp nang. He is the author of nearly 20 books of various genres and topics. Currently, Nguyen Mot is a member of the Prose Council - Vietnam Writers Association.
The collection "Dong Sen Tan" by poet Nguyen Phuc Loc Thanh, published by the Writers' Association, received the Poetry Prize. The Theory and Criticism Prize was awarded to the work "Literary Autonomy and the Mission of Freedom" by Phung Ngoc Kien and Doan Anh Duong, published by the Writers' Association. The collection of short stories "Ca Linh Goes to School " by Le Quang Trang, published by the Kim Dong Publishing House, won the Children's Literature Prize. Each individual winner received a certificate of merit and a cash prize of 20 million VND.
Writer Nguyen Binh Phuong - Vice President of the Vietnam Writers Association, representative of the judging panel - said that the award-winning works all demonstrated the writers' bravery and creativity.
" Absolutely no trace by Nguyen Viet Ha shows the courage of someone who has a firm grasp of technique, daring to take big steps towards mixing genres to find his own formula, both in terms of reflecting human issues in contemporary society, and artistic aesthetics. From the sixth hour to the ninth hour by Nguyen Mot demonstrates the courage of an independent, objective perspective on issues that have been assumed, thereby reflecting on the resilient existence, also full of luck, of individuals in unpredictable and dangerous historical periods and situations. A summer under the shade of a tree by Nguyen Tham Thien Ke is courageous in breaking the sentence structure and renewing the language in his own way while still creating empathy with readers", commented Mr. Nguyen Binh Phuong.
The Vietnam Writers Association Awards have been held annually since 1999. Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association - likened the awards to "the Oscars of the literary world". Every year, the award-winning works are in many genres such as prose, poetry, critical theory, children's literature and translated literature. In 2022, the prose award was given to the work Buu Son Ky Huong by writer Ly Lan.
