On March 2, information from Gia Lai Provincial Police said that they had determined the cause of the explosion that caused a section of wall to collapse and 22 glass windows at the back of the bank to break.

According to information from the People's Committee of Phu Dong Ward, before the explosion, four women on two motorbikes with license plates 81H6-5713 and 81B1-719.70 went to the scrap shop of Ms. Le Thi K. (born in 1995, residing in Group 6, Phu Dong Ward, Pleiku City) to sell scrap. Because the scrap contained plastic and many impurities, Ms. K. did not buy it.

After that, these 4 women brought the above scrap to an empty lot in alley 02 Ly Nam De street (belonging to Group 5, Phu Dong ward, Pleiku city, behind BIDV Gia Lai Bank Branch - Phu Dong transaction office) to burn the metal to sell to Ms. K.

The burning process to remove the plastic and impurities caused small explosions, so the group of women panicked and ran away from the area. Not long after, the explosion occurred.

As VietNamNet reported, on the afternoon of March 1, a very loud explosion occurred in alley 02 Ly Nam De street (Pleiku city), causing houses to shake and damaging 22 glass windows at the back of the bank.

At the site of the explosion, a small hole was dug deep; a 5m long section of the fence nearby collapsed; the garbage truck was overturned, its shield blown off. The incident did not cause any human casualties.

Authorities are clarifying the origin, type and quantity of explosive materials for handling according to regulations.
