Specifically, users will have to pay $119 to replace the battery for the two high-end phone models of the "Apple house". Meanwhile, according to MacRumors, the price remains the same for the standard and "Plus" models, as well as for last year's phone models.
This isn’t the first time Apple has raised the price of iPhone battery repairs. In 2022, the Cupertino-based company raised the price by $30 to $99 for the iPhone 14 series. Since then, battery repair prices for iPads, MacBooks, older iPhones, and Apple Watches have also been on the rise.
According to the policy, defective batteries are warranted for one year and Apple will replace the battery for free under the AppleCare Plus package, if the battery drops below 80% of its original battery capacity.
Apple says that iPhone batteries are typically designed to retain 80% of their original capacity after 500 charge cycles under ideal conditions. Starting with the iPhone 15 series, that number has doubled to 1,000 cycles.
Not only are the batteries on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max larger, they are said to have a new metal casing for better heat dissipation, which could be a factor in increasing repair costs.
The cost of replacing batteries on older iPhones out of warranty from Apple varies by device. For example, the iPhone 15 and 14 series will cost $99, while most older devices will cost $89—except the iPhone SE and iPhone 8, which are $69.
