On the afternoon of August 21, at the Royal Palace in the capital Phnom Penh, 125 members of the 7th Cambodian National Assembly took the oath of office before King Norodom Sihamoni, nearly a month after the general election on July 23.
At the oath-taking ceremony, all parliamentarians pledged to respect the Constitution, serve and protect the interests of the nation and the Cambodian people, and fulfill the mission entrusted to them by the Cambodian people. Taking the oath at the ceremony, parliamentarians pledged not to use national interests for personal gain, family or group interests; expressed their determination to always protect national independence and sovereignty, as well as maintain internal solidarity.
The 7th National Assembly deputies pledged to maintain Cambodia's neutral and non-aligned stance in the present and future, not to allow outside interference in Cambodia's internal affairs, as well as to direct the country's national and international policies; and to fight against all forms of corruption and social injustice.

Earlier, on the same morning, after the opening session, the 7th National Assembly of Cambodia held its first session under the chairmanship of Samdech Heng Samrin, 89 years old, the oldest member of the 125 elected members of the new National Assembly. Thereby, the process of declaring the status of each member of the new legislative body and approving the Working Regulations of the 7th National Assembly of Cambodia was carried out.
The opening session of this National Assembly session is considered a major historical event, paving the way for the establishment of a new legislative and executive apparatus in Cambodia towards a generational leadership transition, a political turning point with historic changes to ensure the maintenance of peace, stability and long-term development in this country.
