The 470th Division was established on April 15, 1970 in the Nam Pa forest, Attapeu province (Southern Laos). As the first engineering division under the 559th Command, the 470th Division consisted of many combined forces and arms. During the fierce years of the resistance war against the US, the 470th Division successfully completed all tasks assigned by the Party and the Army. With their outstanding achievements, 6 groups and 2 individuals in the Division were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. On June 3, 1976, Division 470 was honored as a Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

Since the liberation of the South, Division 470 has been stationed in the strategic area of ​​the Central Highlands, carrying out the task of economic development combined with national defense. In early 1989, Construction Company 470 was established on the basis of the forces of Division 470 under Truong Son Construction Corporation, carrying out the task of economic development combined with national defense. The unit has participated in the construction of many key state-level projects such as: Dray H'linh Hydropower Plant, 500kV North-South transmission line, large hydropower plants on the Serepok River, airports: Buon Ma Thuot, Lien Khuong, Pleiku; Border Patrol Road, Ho Chi Minh Road, Truong Son Dong, National Highway 1A. With its achievements in the new period, in 1990, the Party and State honored the unit as a Hero of Labor in the renovation period for Division 470 and personally Colonel Le Xuan Ba, Division Commander of Division 470.

Faced with the requirements and strategic tasks of defending the Fatherland in the new period, on December 19, 2024, the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission decided to re-establish the 470th DBDV Bridge and Road Engineering Brigade.
