According to the Khmer Times , Mr. Sokhonn, 70 years old, replaces Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea. Previously, Mr. Prak Sokhonn also held the position of Foreign Minister.

At the voting session on the same day, all 112 parliamentarians, including Prime Minister Hun Manet, unanimously voted for Mr. Sokhonn.

Speaking before the vote, Mr. Hun Manet said that this small cabinet reshuffle aims to promote more effective implementation of Cambodia's foreign policy based on the principles of independence and international law to protect the country's core interests.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also affirmed that Cambodia will continue to actively participate in global issues, for peace and stability, as well as to address global challenges.

This is the second small-scale cabinet reshuffle since Prime Minister Hun Manet took office in August 2023 for a five-year term.

Previously, last September, the Cambodian National Assembly also approved the decisions to appoint Mr. Sok Soken - at that time Minister of Tourism - as Minister of Inspection and Mr. Huot Hak - at that time Minister of Inspection - as Minister of Tourism.

As for Mr. Sok Chenda Sophea, although he is no longer the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia, he will still maintain his position as Deputy Prime Minister of this country.
