The seafood industry has impressive growth.

In the first 6 months of 2024, the total value of aquatic product production reached more than 3,605 billion VND, up 4.28% over the same period; the added value reached more than 1,901 billion VND, up 4.28% over the same period. Aquatic product output reached more than 58,097 tons, up 3.2% over the same period. The effective operation of the aquatic product industry has significantly contributed to the economic growth of the agricultural sector.

One of the reasons for the increase in seafood production in the first months of the year is that the Department of Fisheries has done a good job of forecasting fishing grounds to help fishing fleets effectively. Along with that, the demand for seafood consumption has increased, so the selling price of seafood has been quite stable in recent times, creating motivation for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea. The current fishing vessel capacity is 2,312, of which about 95% of fishing vessels participate in fishing activities, with effective occupations such as: purse seine for catching mackerel, rudder fish; purse seine, scoop to catch anchovies.

The implementation of solutions to prevent and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) as recommended by the European Commission continues to receive attention. A bright spot is that functional sectors and localities have implemented Plan No. 309-KH/TU dated May 14, 2024 of the Provincial Party Committee on implementing Directive No. 32-CT/TW dated April 10, 2024 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and effectively developing the fisheries sector sustainably. The Fisheries Sub-Department has assigned direct personnel to operate the fishing vessel monitoring system; manage, exploit and use information and data on fishing vessel monitoring from the Directorate of Fisheries; notify and coordinate information on cases of fishing vessels losing connection and crossing maritime boundaries; review the list of fishing vessels violating IUU and at risk of violating IUU; Organized inspection of 2,839 fishing vessels; of which, 1,649 were exported and 1,190 were docked.

Activities of the Fisheries Sub-Department such as coordinating with coastal localities to organize propaganda, mobilize, and guide procedures on registration, inspection, and issuance of fishing licenses under the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have created a solid legal corridor for fishing vessel owners. Up to now, 100% of fishing vessels have been newly granted or re-granted licenses; 83/86 operating fishing vessels have installed voyage monitoring devices.

Regarding aquaculture activities, farmers have made good use of natural conditions in the area, focusing on implementing technical farming processes and proactively preventing diseases. Aquaculture output in the first 6 months of the year reached 5,230 tons, up 4.21% over the same period; aquatic seed output is estimated at 20,232 million, up 6.9% over the same period in 2023. This result was achieved thanks to the functional sector doing a good job of preventing and controlling diseases in aquatic animals. Specifically, the Department of Fisheries monitored the conversion of the purpose of using parent shrimp that had expired their reproductive life according to regulations for 76 batches/25,453 shrimp; inspected and issued 64 certificates of facilities qualified to raise aquatic seeds. Conducted 4 environmental monitoring sessions/88 water samples in concentrated production areas, thereby promptly notifying production facilities and having appropriate production plans.

In the coming time, the fisheries sector and coastal localities will continue to restructure the fisheries sector; organize effective exploitation of offshore and coastal areas according to announced quotas; develop offshore exploitation associated with policies supporting "far sea" exploitation. Focus on implementing solutions to build Ninh Thuan into a center of high-quality shrimp breeds in the country; accompany businesses to implement high-tech marine farming projects.
