The provincial economy continues to grow

On April 9, comrade Le Quoc Phong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and comrade Tran Tri Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the regular meeting of the Provincial People's Committee in March 2025 on "Evaluating the direction and administration work and the socio-economic situation in the first quarter, directions and tasks for the second quarter of 2025".

Implementing the socio-economic development plan for 2025 under difficult conditions, the province's economy still maintained an impressive growth rate, although lower than the set target. According to the results announced by the General Statistics Office, the province's GRDP growth in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated at 6.28%, a higher growth rate than the same period last year (the first quarter of 2024 reached 4.62%). Of which, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.42%; the industry and construction sector increased by 8.25%; industry increased by 8.64%; the service sector increased by 8.57%; product taxes minus product subsidies increased by 6.85%.

The province's agricultural production in the first months of the year mainly focused on caring for and harvesting winter-spring crops. To date, the 2024-2025 winter-spring rice crop has harvested 187,160 hectares with a yield of 1,364,495 tons, an increase of 0.23%. The province's total aquatic product output in the first quarter is estimated at 142,079 tons, an increase of 6.06% over the same period last year; of which aquaculture output reached 140,393 tons, an increase of 6.02%. Pangasius alone reached 117,984 tons, an increase of 6.28% over the same period last year.

The province's industrial production maintained growth in the first quarter of 2025. The industrial production index in the first 3 months of 2025 increased by 8.14% over the same period last year. Some key industrial products had high growth over the same period: frozen fish fillets increased by 14.93%; milled rice increased by 11.51%; aquatic feed increased by 18.99%.

Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first quarter of 2025 is 37,327 billion VND, an increase of 9.53% over the same period in 2024. Estimated export turnover in the first quarter of 2025 of the province reached 551,849 thousand USD, an increase of 9.46% over the same period in 2024. The province's two main products, aquatic products and rice, both grew in both turnover and output over the same period.

According to the Department of Finance, the province's total public investment plan for 2025 is VND 8,045,818 billion. According to the report of investors, the disbursement result as of March 31 was VND 744,664 billion/VND 8,045,818 billion, reaching 9.26%, 2.07% higher than the February report of 7.19% but 0.27% lower than the estimated disbursement in March of the whole country of 9.53%. To promote the implementation and attraction of private investment projects in the first quarter of 2025, the Provincial People's Committee has approved 3 new investment projects with a total registered investment capital of VND 2,404 billion (in the form of investment policy approval and investor approval). As of March 31, 184 new enterprises were established, with a total registered capital of over VND1,986 billion, reaching nearly 27.63% of the plan; 36 enterprises were dissolved and 80 enterprises were reactivated. The total number of enterprises operating in the province is estimated at over 5,300.

At the meeting, delegates spent time assessing the situation in the first quarter and implementing key tasks for agricultural, forestry and fishery development in the second quarter; building new rural areas; managing land, water and mineral resources; eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses; the situation of industry, trade and services; direction and administration work and the socio-economic situation of localities...

Speaking at the meeting, Provincial Party Secretary Le Quoc Phong highly appreciated the efforts of all sectors and levels in implementing the task of achieving economic growth in the first quarter of 6.28%, nearly reaching the plan according to the growth scenario of the quarter (the plan is 6.5%). However, there are still some limitations in developing growth indicators.

Faced with that reality, in the second quarter, Provincial Party Secretary Le Quoc Phong requested the Provincial People's Committee, sectors and localities to focus highly on performing their tasks, promoting the role of leaders, the responsibility of each individual, department and position to achieve the set plan. At the same time, focus on accelerating the reduction of 30% of the time to carry out administrative reform procedures; timely and flexible adjustment of public investment.

Provincial Party Secretary Le Quoc Phong requested relevant sectors and localities to accelerate the implementation of key investment projects. In that spirit, it is necessary to set out progress and implementation roadmaps, increase dialogue and meetings with businesses to remove difficulties for businesses, and soon put projects into operation. For the agricultural sector, it is necessary to develop processing industries applying science and technology to production, taking advantage of resources from policies; and mobilize people to participate in the 1 million hectare high-quality rice project.

Regarding digital transformation, the Provincial Party Secretary requested the Provincial People's Committee to simultaneously assess and equip digital infrastructure, develop digital transformation plans for localities after the merger, contributing to the implementation of the digital literacy movement. Pay more attention to eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses. In addition, the Provincial People's Committee needs to continue to maintain communication and meeting channels to promptly respond to the wishes of people and businesses...

Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Tri Quang accepted the instructions of the Provincial Party Secretary Le Quoc Phong. With the determination to strive for a growth rate of 8.78% in the second quarter, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested relevant sectors and localities to accelerate the implementation of tasks in the second quarter. In particular, focusing on developing region II; promoting the structure in the agricultural sector, developing logistics and the 1 million hectare high-quality rice project, building freshwater reservoirs; closely monitoring demand and having a plan to supply sand in a timely and reasonable manner for projects, especially key transport projects. At the same time, monitoring and promoting projects to come into operation; implementing budget revenue and expenditure; work to prevent and combat waste. On the other hand, promoting public investment disbursement, in addition to sand sources, investors try to focus on implementing key projects, welcoming the Party Congress; the program to eliminate temporary houses, dilapidated houses, social housing; promoting administrative procedure reform...

On the same day, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Dong Thap province held a conference to announce and present the Prime Minister's decision on approving the election results of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province for the 2021-2026 term . According to the decision, the Prime Minister approved the election results for the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province for the 2021-2026 term for Mr. Tran Tri Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Acting Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province for the 2021-2026 term.

On March 28, 2025, at the 13th extraordinary session, the People's Council of Dong Thap province, term X, 2021 - 2026, elected Mr. Tran Tri Quang to hold the position of Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee.
