In the Exam Season Consulting program organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper on the morning of March 10 at Truong Dinh High School (Go Cong Town, Tien Giang), a student raised the issue: "I see many seniors choose a major and after studying for 1 or 2 years, they are "disillusioned" and have to choose another major... Is it because universities do not have detailed career guidance about majors? We are very confused."

Master Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of the Information and Communication Department of the University of Science, Ho Chi Minh City National University, affirmed: “On the websites of universities, there is information about the entry requirements and output standards of a major. In addition, there is also the content of the subjects and the number of credits to study each year in the training program.”
Master Tu advises that before choosing a major, students should also seek information from people working in the profession. In addition, they should take the time to research recruitment notices of businesses in the field they want to study, see what professional skills the business requires, and then consider whether they can pursue the major and meet them or not.
"When students understand their major, choose it seriously and try to exploit their strengths during the learning process, they will not be 'disillusioned'," Master Tu shared.
Master Tran Viet Dung, Head of Training Department of Cao Thang Technical College, also said that the school has consulting channels, candidates who are interested in any major can contact teachers who are heads, deputy heads of faculties, and heads of departments for advice. "Students will know the detailed content of the subjects of year 1, year 2, year 3 to understand more about the major they want to study," Master Dung informed.
Not worried about being "disillusioned" in the first and second years, Hoang Nam (Go Cong High School) is afraid that he will study his favorite major but when he goes to work and is exposed to a work environment that he no longer likes, so what should he do to get a stable job?
Dr. Nguyen Van Kha talks with students
Answering this question, Dr. Nguyen Van Kha, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that everyone's career can change and that is completely normal.
“At this time, if you find a career you like, then decide to choose it. At university, you will learn basic knowledge and then study specialized subjects. Once you like it and choose it, go all the way and try to fully achieve your goal. You may not like that career after graduation, but with the knowledge you have learned at university, you still have a certain foundation to be able to do the jobs you love, even if it is not in your field. At this time, you can also study for a second degree in a career that you find more suitable,” Dr. Kha advised.
