Foreign affairs bearing the identity of 'Vietnamese bamboo'

The foreign affairs and diplomacy school with the strong identity of the "Vietnamese bamboo tree" with "firm roots, strong trunk, flexible branches" was highlighted by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Foreign Affairs Conference to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress held in December 2021, which was also the first National Foreign Affairs Conference. Many international experts and scholars highly appreciated the theoretical significance and practical value of this unique foreign affairs school.

Associate Professor Piotr Tsvetov, First Vice President of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, spent a lot of time researching and analyzing the policies of the Party and State of Vietnam, including foreign policy. Mr. Piotr Tsvetov commented that the diplomatic school with the identity of the "Vietnamese bamboo tree" is the foundation of Vietnam's behavior in the international arena. According to Mr. Piotr Tsvetov, "firm roots" are the unshakable interests in protecting independence and autonomy; "solid trunks" are the solidarity and unity among the Vietnamese people and with the people of other countries; "flexible branches" are strategic adjustments that take into account changes in the international arena.

According to Professor, Dr. Thanh Han Binh, Director of the Center for Vietnamese Studies at Zhejiang University of Industry (China), the diplomatic school with the strong identity of "Vietnamese bamboo" is the inheritance of the historical tradition of Vietnam, the concretization of President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, and at the same time based on specific conditions in the context of today's era. According to Mr. Thanh Han Binh, the diplomacy with the strong identity of "Vietnamese bamboo" helps Vietnam establish and promote relations with many countries, expand the network of partners in the condition of ensuring sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as national and ethnic interests. This helps Vietnam's position in the international arena to be constantly enhanced, while creating economic miracles with the leading growth rate in Southeast Asia.

As a scholar with many years of research on Vietnam and Vietnam-China relations, Mr. Thanh Han Binh emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has made many important contributions to promoting the development of relations as well as friendship between the two countries. Affirming the recognition and appreciation for these great contributions, the Party and State of China awarded the Friendship Medal to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Sharing his opinion on the book Building and developing a comprehensive and modern Vietnamese foreign affairs and diplomacy imbued with the "Vietnamese bamboo" identity by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, scholar Uch Leang, Deputy Director of the Department of Asian-African and Middle Eastern Studies, Institute of International Relations, Royal Academy of Cambodia, said that the work is concise and profound, demonstrating a comprehensive vision in all aspects, from politics, foreign affairs to security-defense, economy and culture. According to Mr. Uch Leang, the book is a process of distillation and synthesis from practical experience with a realistic and scientific approach.

Referring to the content of the book, Mr. Uch Leang commented that Vietnam has gradually integrated deeply and comprehensively with the region and the world. Vietnam has become a member of many regional and international organizations, such as the United Nations, ASEAN, etc.; assumed important responsibilities, such as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term, etc.; actively participated in multilateral mechanisms, signed many important treaties and agreements with other countries. According to Mr. Uch Leang, these achievements were achieved thanks to the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the consensus and joint efforts of all Vietnamese people, the great contributions of the diplomatic sector as well as the support and assistance of the international community. International scholars all agree that equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with all countries contributes significantly to Vietnam's development achievements in many fields. Those great achievements were based on the unique foreign policy and diplomacy of the Ho Chi Minh era, imbued with the identity of "Vietnamese bamboo", imbued with the soul, character and spirit of the Vietnamese people.
