GDP growth rate in 2024 will reach 7.09%, raising the GDP scale of the economy to 11,512 trillion VND, equivalent to about 476 billion USD, GDP per capita will reach 4,700 USD/person, an increase of 377 USD compared to 2023.

GDP per capita increased by 377 USD
At a press conference announcing socio-economic statistics for the fourth quarter and 2024, held by the General Statistics Office on January 6 in Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General, said that the gross domestic product (GDP) in the fourth quarter of 2024 is estimated to increase by 7.55% over the same period last year, with the economy maintaining the trend of GDP growth in the following quarter being higher than the previous quarter.
Specifically, GDP growth rate is as follows: first quarter increased by more than 5.9%, second quarter increased by more than 7.2%, third quarter increased by more than 7.4%, fourth quarter increased by more than 7.5%.
The GDP growth rate of the whole economy in 2024 will reach 7.09% compared to the previous year. In the period 2011 - 2024, the GDP growth rate in 2024 will only be lower than the growth rates in 2018, 2019 and 2022.
In the total added value of the whole economy, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector contributed 5.37%, the industry and construction sector contributed 45.17%; the service sector contributed 49.46%.
By economic sector, in 2024, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector will increase by 3.27%, the industry and construction sector will increase by 8.32%, and the service sector will increase by 7.38% in 2024.
Also according to the General Statistics Office, the GDP scale of the economy at current prices in 2024 is estimated at 11,511.9 trillion VND, equivalent to 476.3 billion USD.
GDP per capita in 2024 is estimated at 114 million VND/person, equivalent to 4,700 USD, an increase of 377 USD compared to 2023.
Labor productivity of the entire economy in 2024 at current prices is estimated at 221.9 million VND/worker, equivalent to 9,182 USD/worker, an increase of 726 USD compared to 2023.
Recorded many economic bright spots
Regarding some other important macroeconomic indicators, Ms. Huong said that in 2024, the whole country will have more than 157,200 newly registered enterprises with a total registered capital of more than 1,547 trillion VND.
Besides, the whole country has nearly 76,200 enterprises returning to operation, an increase of 30.4% over the same period in 2023.
In total, the total number of newly established and resuming businesses in 2024 is more than 233,400, an increase of 7.1% over the same period in 2023.
Also in 2024, the number of enterprises temporarily suspending business for a period of time was nearly 100,100, an increase of 12.4% over the same period last year, nearly 76,200 enterprises suspended operations pending dissolution procedures, an increase of 16.3%, and more than 21,600 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, an increase of 20%. On average, nearly 16,500 enterprises withdrew from the market each month.
International visitors to Vietnam in 2024 will reach nearly 17.6 million, an increase of 39.5% over the previous year and equal to 97.6% of 2019 (the year before the COVID-19 pandemic).
Total registered FDI capital as of December 31, 2024 reached about 38.23 billion USD.
Total state budget revenue in 2024 is estimated at VND2,037.5 trillion, equal to 119.8% of the annual estimate and up 16.2% over the previous year. Meanwhile, total state budget expenditure for the whole year is about VND1,830.8 trillion.
Also in 2024, the total import-export turnover of goods reached about 786.3 billion USD, an increase of 15.4% over the previous year. The trade balance of goods had a surplus of more than 24.7 billion USD.
Average CPI in the fourth quarter of 2024 increased by 2.87% over the same period last year. Overall, the average CPI in 2024 increased by 3.63% over 2023, achieving the target set by the National Assembly.
