On December 31, Hanoi: Rectifying the management of Hoan Kiem Lake area"> Hoan Kiem District (Hanoi) held an inauguration and exhibition of the process of dismantling, restoring, renovating and repairing the Toad Fountain - a hundred-year-old structure located in the Dien Hong Flower Garden.

Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People's Committee Pham Tuan Long said that according to the city's assigned tasks, from 2022, the district has been renovating the technical infrastructure of Dien Hong Flower Garden and completing it in 2023. At that time, the district also considered renovating the Toad Fountain, however, it did not have enough technical conditions and was not confident about the implementation solution.

"After that, with the support of domestic and foreign experts, the district proceeded to restore this project. This is not a large project, but it is meaningful in terms of preserving historical relics," said Mr. Long, emphasizing that the project has met the requirements set by experts.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Dao Kinh - an expert on heritage and heritage restoration, assessed that Hoan Kiem district has "responded appropriately" to the Toad Fountain with minimal intervention measures: handling trees that encroached on the Fountain; restoring and preserving the original architectural and artistic features of the work; preserving the "age" of the work... Mr. Kinh acknowledged that the goals set for the restoration of the work were all fully achieved, without having to add new materials or structures...

Architect Emmanuel Cerise - Director of the Paris Region International Cooperation Support Agency in Vietnam also acknowledged that the Toad Fountain is a "unique and one-of-a-kind" project in Hanoi. This brought many challenges in the process of restoring and renovating the project. However, with the effective coordination of domestic and foreign experts, the renovation and restoration process was successful.

"Because there are not many archives of the project left, we had to come up with a plan to dismantle most of the Fountain structure. This is also an opportunity to learn about the operating principles, water pipes, water pumps, and special structure of the Fountain," said architect Emmanuel Cerise.
