On January 26 (the 27th day of the Lunar New Year), cold air affected almost all areas in Ha Tinh province. In Ha Tinh city, heavy rain and strong winds caused hundreds of peach and kumquat pots to fall. Many ornamental plant vendors huddled in the cold waiting for customers to come buy.

Mr. Vo Ta Duc (born in 1990, residing in Thach Trung, Ha Tinh City) said that this year, purchasing power at ornamental plant stores is much slower than in previous years.

"The weather this year is quite erratic. Two days ago, the sun was so strong that the peach trees I bought to sell burst into bloom. Today, the wind and rain caused the trees to fall, causing significant damage. My friend and I invested about 300 million VND, but we have not yet recovered half of it," said Mr. Duc.

According to Mr. Vo Ta Duc, he and a friend went to Van Giang district (Hung Yen) to import 50 kumquat pots and 200 peach trees to Ha Tinh city for sale. However, by the 27th of Tet, less than half of the bonsai trees had been sold.

Similarly, this year, Mr. Duong Van Ky (65 years old, residing in Luu Vinh Son commune, Thach Ha district) also brought more than 200 peach trees to sell on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh street, but up to now has only sold about 90 trees.

To avoid the cold, Mr. Ky and his son set up a tent and lit a fire on the sidewalk, waiting for customers to come buy. "I have been selling peach blossoms on this street for more than 35 years. But this year, it is very difficult to sell ornamental plants. Last year, when I brought the plants down, customers came to buy them. This year, due to bad weather, the flowers did not bloom beautifully, so it is very difficult to find customers. In addition, the rain and wind caused the trees to fall and many of the tree pots were broken," said Mr. Ky.
