TN17 canal in Chau Thanh district always ensures enough water supply for irrigation areas during this year's dry season.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD), the province has 4 reservoirs: Dau Tieng, Tha La, Nuoc Trong 1, Nuoc Trong 2; 10 electric pumping stations, 1,742 irrigation canals, 365 drainage canals and 24 dykes; serving the irrigation water demand for agricultural production for about 150,270 ha/3 crops (of which, proactive irrigation water supply is more than 120,900 ha, reaching 80%). With such a number of irrigation works, the demand for water supply for agricultural and industrial production has basically been met.

On December 8, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Official Dispatch No. 128/CD-TTg on proactively preventing and combating drought, water shortage, and saltwater intrusion. For Tay Ninh province, in order to proactively and promptly deploy measures to respond to possible drought and water shortage, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has advised the Provincial People's Committee to direct the Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited and Tay Ninh Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited to proactively develop a water supply plan and operate irrigation works to ensure irrigation and drainage water supply for agricultural, industrial, and domestic production. The companies have also strengthened solutions to prevent and combat drought and water shortage.

To manage water resources effectively and economically, the Department of Agriculture and Environment also directed Tay Ninh Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. to proactively monitor hydrometeorological forecast information, closely monitor weather conditions and water resource developments at Dau Tieng Lake and Tha La Lake, and coordinate with Southern Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. to do a good job of supplying water for irrigation, ensuring the safety of irrigation works, dams, reservoirs, and regulating water on canal systems to serve agricultural production in the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop.

At the same time, the units coordinate with the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to mobilize people to change crops suitable for the land, use water economically and plant simultaneously in accordance with the water supply time.

In the dry season of 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has recommended a number of contents for the people and authorities to be proactive in agricultural production. Specifically, irrigation companies in the province closely monitor hydrometeorological forecast information, thereby developing plans for water supply for irrigation, timely and reasonable water regulation, safe operation of dams, reservoirs, and canal systems; inspecting, dredging, and repairing canal systems.

People's Committees of districts, towns and cities monitor weather developments, hydrometeorological forecast information, proactively deploy measures to respond to drought and water shortage, prioritize providing domestic water for people and provide guidance on using water resources economically and effectively.

On the people's side, regularly monitor weather conditions, forecasts, warnings; instructions, recommendations and directions from authorities to proactively implement appropriate response solutions. Farmers should develop flexible production plans, sow simultaneously, concentrate on each region, prioritize the use of high-quality, short-term, drought-resistant crop varieties.

Mr. Vo Van Chon, a farmer living in Dong Khoi commune, Chau Thanh district, happily said that this year's winter-spring corn crop was a bumper one thanks to adequate irrigation water from the canal.

Agricultural production activities should apply advanced irrigation techniques, save water, rotate, and time properly, proactively regulate water in the fields to meet water needs according to each stage of plant growth.

Thanks to the proactive work of developing plans to operate irrigation works to ensure irrigation water supply, and strengthening solutions to prevent and combat drought and water shortages, up to now, in the areas under irrigation of irrigation works, there has been no water shortage during the dry season.

In the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, irrigation water from irrigation systems was fully supplied to people for agricultural production. Along with favorable weather, there were few unusually heavy rains, so most crop yields achieved high results, especially for rice and corn. Farmers were increasingly satisfied with irrigation water supply.
