Going upstream of the lake, a tea island has been formed with many tea hills emerging like small "oases".

The tea island was formed by the rising water level of Cau Cau Lake (Thanh An Commune - Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An Province). The lake was built in 1963. At that time, due to its small capacity, the hills of tea trees were still sleeping quietly on the eastern slope of the Truong Son mountain range.

The tea hills surrounded by streams create a poetic beauty at dawn or when the clouds drift by.

Due to the requirements of economic development, exploiting the potential and strengths of the Right Bank of Thanh Chuong District. In 2000, Cau Cau Lake, along with 7 other irrigation lakes in Thanh Chuong, was renovated and upgraded under the "Project to renovate and upgrade the Right Bank Irrigation Lake System in Thanh Chuong District" managed by Thanh Chuong Irrigation Company Limited. Cau Cau Lake provides irrigation water for production in Thanh An, Thanh Thinh communes and part of Thanh Chi commune. After being renovated and upgraded, the lake bed was expanded to a capacity of nearly 3 million m3 of water. Thanks to that, all the hills upstream were partly flooded, creating oases. People have cleared the forest hills here to grow industrial tea to provide raw materials for Ngoc Lam tea factory.

With a year-round water source, the Central region's summer is still a deep green.

Currently, the total tea area is over 450 hectares, of which about 83 hectares are surrounded by lake water, creating tea oases with breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. After the Ho Chi Minh road section through Thanh Chuong district was completed (in 2003), the Cau Cau lake area was located close to the Ho Chi Minh road, so the tea island became known to many tourists inside and outside the province. Since then, the lake area has been oriented by Thanh Chuong district leaders and local people to develop into a tourist area.

With dozens of different tea oases, each island has its own shape, the area is also very different, but the smallest is about more than 1 hectare. Coming to Thanh An tea island, you can lie on small boats, go through each green oase, you can feel the unique beauty of "Ha Long on land", enjoy the extremely fresh and pleasant atmosphere, and relax in an extremely romantic space. Especially in the early morning, the gentle scent of tea wafts in the air, making the soul extremely comfortable. On some islands, there are also simple bamboo and leaf houses as a place to rest, quench your thirst and admire the poetic natural scenery. After experiencing and exploring the tea island, visitors can go to the boat houses to order Thanh Chuong-flavored dishes such as Thanh Chuong pickled vegetables, chicken soup, Khe fish, green tea stewed in bowls... and the service style is also very rustic and simple.
