On April 9, the Ho Chi Minh City Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee coordinated with the People's Committee of Binh Thanh District to organize a launching ceremony in response to "National Voluntary Blood Donation Day".
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Duong Anh Duc - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - emphasized the meaning and noble humanitarian value of donating blood to save lives, and encouraged more and more people to participate in blood donation.
“The city is proud to be a typical example in blood donation with the number of about 200,000 - 300,000 blood bags each year. The spirit of voluntary blood donation of Ho Chi Minh City people with the message 'a drop of blood given, a life saved' has saved many dangerous cases" - Mr. Duc shared.
In addition, Mr. Duc hopes that the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to coordinate with localities to increase attention and promote communication to all people and all social classes to join hands in carrying out this meaningful work.
On the local side, Ms. Thai Thi Hong Nga - Vice Chairman of Binh Thanh District People's Committee - reported that in 2023, the district's Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation organized 92 voluntary blood donation campaigns.
The result was 9,019 participants, equivalent to 12,510 units of safe blood, reaching 139.18% of the target assigned by the City's Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation.
At the ceremony, the organizing committee also commended and introduced typical groups and individuals with outstanding achievements in blood donation, and encouraged everyone to participate in blood donation.
Mr. Tran Quang Thuan (57 years old, Binh Thanh District) proudly shared that his whole family has donated blood more than 100 times to save lives. Mr. Thuan himself has donated blood 44 times, in addition, he has encouraged his wife to donate blood 46 times and his two young children to donate blood 11 and 10 times respectively.

Mr. Thuan shared that in 1998, while on a business trip, he encountered a serious traffic accident, the victim needed a large amount of blood, at that time he participated in blood donation to save the life. Seeing his blood drops save a life, he saw blood donation as a noble act, helping people in difficult times.
Since then, he has been donating blood voluntarily and actively encouraging his relatives and friends to do the same. From his story, he wants to spread the message to many families and people to donate blood voluntarily, using their blood to help others and help life.
Many changes in voluntary blood donation
Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tran Truong Son - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society - said that this year there have been many changes in voluntary blood donation.
Specifically, this year, the blood donation target of Ho Chi Minh City is 300,000 blood bags, an increase of 80,000 blood bags compared to last year. Regarding the quality of blood bags, reduce 250ml bags, increase 350ml and 450ml blood bags to about 85%. In addition, increase clean blood bags to over 98%, apply digital transformation in blood donation more, increase the amount of clean blood, good blood.
