According to Tuoi Tre Online , Hai Phong Club's number 1 goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu was injured before the match and was not registered to play. Coach Chu Dinh Nghiem gave the starting position to Van Toan instead of number 2 goalkeeper Pham Van Luan.

During the 90 minutes on the field, Van Toan played with concentration and blocked 4 shots on target from Hanoi. Nguyen Van Toan was born in 1999, from Hai Phong. He was the number 1 goalkeeper of Hai Phong Club, and was highly regarded in the national and U23 teams under coach Park Hang Seo, winning 2 gold medals in men's football at the SEA Games and competing in the 3rd qualifying round of the World Cup.

However, in the past 3 years, Van Toan's performance has declined due to injuries. Since coach Chu Dinh Nghiem came to lead Hai Phong team, Nguyen Dinh Trieu has risen to become the number 1 goalkeeper (both in the club and the Vietnam national team), so it is understandable that Van Toan has no place.
