On the evening of June 20, at the Hanoi Opera House, President To Lam and Russian President Vladimir Putin met with leaders of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association and generations of former Vietnamese students studying in the Russian Federation.
After that, the two leaders and guests enjoyed an art program to welcome the President's visit.
Among the performances, the light sculpture "Great Russia" by artist Bui Van Tu impressed with its unique performance, although it only lasted nearly 3 minutes.
In a modernized ao dai, artist Bui Van Tu stepped onto the stage, the lights dimmed, he turned the sculpture and on the curtain behind appeared a young image of President Putin, continuing to turn the sculpture in another direction, another image of the President appeared.
This is an art form that combines sculpture and light, thereby creating a unique image from the shadow of an object. The process of creating a work begins with the idea and material selection, the artist Bui Van Tu is the one who sculpts and adjusts the light source to determine the angle and change of the object. The final product is arranged in front of the light to create a shadow with the shape intended by the author.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this art performance was a gift from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On behalf of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President To Lam presented President Putin with a portrait of the Kremlin leader himself created using light sculpture art.
Ms. Duong Tuyet, assistant to artisan Bui Van Tu shared:
The work "Great Russia" features the image of a majestic horse under the canopy of a birch forest - the symbolic tree of Russia. The image of the horse represents strength, steadfastness and freedom, and symbolizes nobility and loyalty.
When the light shines on the work, the shadows of the birch forest blend together to create the image of a young man who, since his childhood, has had the aspiration to build a great Russia.
In particular, when the birch tree is rotated and the light shines at the right angle, from the image of the young man, a portrait of the great President of Russia appears - the one who spent his whole life nurturing talent and building a powerful Russia on the international stage.
This story reminds us of Uncle Ho's teaching: "For the benefit of ten years, we must plant trees. For the benefit of a hundred years, we must educate people."
This light sculpture is a vivid symbol of the friendship between the two countries and peoples, who have always been closely linked and developed together. This gift represents respect and the desire to strengthen good relations, demonstrating the cultural exchange and lasting friendship between Vietnam and Russia.
Ms. Duong Tuyet said that the same night, this work was packaged and shipped to Russia to be given as a gift to President Putin.
