Therefore, the information about the opening of the Cham Royal Cultural Heritage Collection to welcome visitors is opening up opportunities to develop new and attractive tourist routes, meeting the needs of learning and researching about an ancient culture of the Cham people in Binh Thuan.
Awakening the heritage
Binh Thuan is the last land of the Champa kingdom, formerly known as Panduranga. Particularly in Bac Binh district, in the development history of the Champa kingdom before and after, through the periods, there have been unique cultural imprints associated with religious festivals. Promoting those values, blending with the tourist landscape to create a comprehensive picture with many typical colors of the locality located in the north of the province.
Open warehouse The Cham Royal Cultural Heritage Collection is located about 30m north of Highway 1A in Tinh My village, Phan Thanh commune, Bac Binh district. This is the only remaining fairly complete collection of the Champa dynasty, preserved for over 400 years by the descendants of King Po Klong Mohnai. It displays more than 100 original artifacts with deep historical and cultural values of the Cham people. Associated with the Cham Royal Cultural Heritage Collection is the Po Klong Mohnai Temple relic located about 200m east of Highway 1A in Luong Dong quarter, Luong Son town, Bac Binh district, which was ranked as a National Historical and Artistic Relic by the Ministry of Culture - Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in 1993.
The collection of Cham Royal cultural heritage is considered to fully converge the values of the history of the birth of the ancient Cham dynasty with costumes, jewelry, crowns, weapons, royal utensils... Before 1975, this collection was kept secret for spiritual and religious reasons, ensuring security and safety for the heritage and its guardians. After being ranked as a National Historical and Artistic Relic, up to now, the family of Cham Royal descendants has agreed to let Binh Thuan Provincial Museum design and display the collection in the form of an open warehouse.
Implementing the Project "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" under the national target program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030, from 2023-2024, the Provincial Museum was assigned to implement "Building an open warehouse model of the Cham Royal Heritage Collection in Bac Binh district, connecting with Cham cultural heritage tourism itineraries in the locality". Through the survey and statistics period, the Provincial Museum has classified the Cham Royal Heritage Collection into 8 collection groups. These are the collection of king and queen crowns; collection of weapons: sabers, swords; collection of musical instruments (Gong la); collection of worship objects (beliefs, spirituality); collection of fabrics (brocade and fabrics originating from abroad); collection of ceramics; Paper collection: royal decrees of several Nguyen Dynasty kings and some documents on land, land registers, administrative documents copied in Han Nom script from royal decrees of Nguyen Dynasty kings; wood collection: Royal chests, guards' hats. Among them, the most valuable are the crown of King Po Klong Moh Nai in the early 17th century and the hair bun of Queen Po Bia Som made of gold with very sophisticated and unique carvings, along with the costumes of the king, queen, prince and princess, the robe with the neck and chest patterns embroidered with the image of Makara, which King Po Klong Moh Nai often wore during the court.
Promoting heritage associated with tourism
Heritage discovery tourism is a popular form of tourism that has been loved by many people in recent years. Therefore, as soon as the Cham Royal Cultural Heritage Museum was officially opened, groups of tourists and artifact collectors from Ho Chi Minh City and Lam Dong came and highly appreciated the value of the cultural artifacts. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dung (Da Lat City, Lam Dong) said: I am very happy that for many years now, the government and my family have carried out many activities to preserve and now open the door for everyone to admire the "treasures". This is a meaningful highlight, meeting the needs of learning and researching the long-standing culture of the Cham people, enriching and diversifying the colorful culture of Binh Thuan.
From the perspective of a museum worker, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham - Director of the Southern Women's Museum assessed: According to time and family space, the family has kept the original artifacts almost intact for 4 centuries, which is very valuable. However, some of the king's royal costumes are currently severely damaged over time and need to be "treated", finding Cham artisans specializing in embroidery who understand the rank to restore and preserve the artifacts. At the same time, it is also necessary to pay attention to natural conditions, temperature, environment, limit the impact on the artifacts and coordinate more investment in the form of presentation so that visitors can admire each pattern on each costume of the king, queen, and princess.
To develop sustainable tourism based on exploiting the values of Cham cultural heritage, Mr. Uc Viet Vong - Head of the Management Board of the Cham Cultural Exhibition Center said: Currently, members of the Cham Royal family have participated in training courses on model building skills and tourism operations. In the coming time, the center will continue to promote, introduce, and connect units and travel companies to build tours and routes to explore Cham heritage and culture in a day of experience from the Cham Cultural Exhibition Center to Binh Duc pottery village, the Royal warehouse, temples and enjoy Cham folk cuisine, in order to exploit and promote the strengths of cultural values and tourism in a sustainable way.
The artifacts of the Cham Royal Family are invaluable assets left by previous generations for the next generation. That is the basis for preserving and creating new values in accordance with the historical and cultural traditions of the nation. Therefore, according to Mr. Doan Van Thuan - Director of the Provincial Museum: Along with preserving and promoting the value of the artifacts on display, there needs to be synchronous coordination between departments, branches, local authorities and the Cham king's descendants to have basic solutions in the face of the current situation in order to gradually promote the cultural and artistic values of the collection on the spot and also economic solutions when connecting with Cham cultural heritage tourism itineraries in the locality.
The Cham Royal Cultural Heritage Museum officially opened to visitors on July 16 at the home of Ms. Lu Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung - Tinh My village, Phan Thanh commune, Bac Binh district. Opening hours are from Monday to Sunday every week (except Thursday).
